Members of GLAZA do get admission discounts to a whole bunch of zoological facilities around the country, but the San Diego Zoo is NOT one of them. The SD zoo refuses to participate in that reciprocity program because of the huge di$parity between the admission rates (SD very $$$; LA not so much) Those "Mold-O-Matic" machines that make the wax figures are very much alive and well and scattered throughout the L.A. zoo. Also, on the FYI tip: chimpanzees are apes, not monkeys. BIG difference. The zoo is near the 5 and 134 interchange. They're meerkats, not "meekrats" but you knew that and were just making a funny that sailed over my bitter humorlessness. The male lion is named Lionel (the female is Cookie). The male American alligator actually lost an eye after it got hit by an object thrown by some asshole patron who may or may not have been Hungarian and an infection set in. Oh, and single-day admission is $10 for adults; $5 for kids; an annual membership is totally the way to go. You missed out some of the best bits - like the two new tiger cubs and the baby red ape! They are slowly redoing all the animal habitats to make them better so give LA zoo money to help them do this! Oh that dragon ate Sharon Stone's ex-husband's toe on his birthday.
