The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting its third annual essay contest for local 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Much detailed attention is paid to contest rules and requirements but take a good look at the poster image. Zoom into the file or print the pdf and see how many inconsistencies can you find.
Answers:
- PC laptop is not compatible with Mac desktop
- LED power indicator shows laptop isn’t turned on
- Selected font face is Times but displayed font isn’t
- Selected font size is 12 but displayed font is several times larger
- Left margin not aligned with text
- Text exceeding right margin limits
Bonus Points:
Did you also notice…
- The user’s desktop is a complete trainwreck?
- User is sharing music files with someone named Jennifer?
- User may be into jumbotrons and weddings?

This poster could quite be the worst attempt at graphic design I’ve ever seen. I wonder what lurks inside the “la vida mejor” folder.
la vida mejor must be the missing link between Jennifer’s music, a jumbotron and some wedding.
Also note that the text is at a slightly different angle then the window it appears in.
The desktop appears to be the desktop of someone who works at a marketing firm which actually explains the jumbotron folder, but not the wedding folder.
Another flub is that for the laptop lid to cast that size and shape of shadow on the surface behind it, multiple light sources would have to be hitting the screen from multiple angles, but then this light would render the display unviewable with glare! Whoops!
i made this graphic and i can vouch that it is totally a screenshot of the laptop, the text is all authentic, all is authentic and as it should be. all is as it should be gents. _jeff
Jeff, what does la vida mejor mean?
you should know it means a better life. since i am anonymous here i might as well you i have a few notes from the last tony robbins seminar, and my resume in that folder. Also there’s an mp3 of When the going gets tough…
THE TOUGH GET GOING

Jeff–can you please tell us more about the wedding?
