<a href="http://interzound.wordpress.com/2008/01/06/little-dragon-little-dragon/" rel="nofollow">Little Dragon-Little Dragon</a>
Spooky grooves from Gothenburg, Sweden. Fab gear.
Like certain moments of Can, Bootsy or Sly & The Family Stone, Little Dragon's Test initially makes no sense but is instantly arresting and tough to shake off. You need to keep listening to work out what it is and how it's put together.Japanese-American singer Yukimi Nagano's impressionistic lyrics and funky phrasing fuel the pleasingly askew mood. A look at the video on YouTube confirms they can match this visually. Test is a prime moment on their brilliant debut album of minimalistic, parallel-universe soul music. It opens gently with an ethereal, slinky ballad, Twice, based on just two piano notes, and covers space-age jazz (Turn Left, Constant Surprises), dub (Forever, Test) and warped pop (Place To Belong, Wink, Recommendation), hanging off Erik Bodin's tight, spare drums, the superb bass of Fredrik Kallgren and Hakan Wirenstrand's subtle keyboard colours. Clever, sexy and addictive.

You made me miss Matt so much, but reading the interview made me feel like I was in the room with you two waiting for a polaroid to develop while working on PAD 3 (which seems like it actually may happen, finally). I have been hard at work at my first solo photo book project. It's called People and Things. It's an exploration and investigation into the relationship between us folks and the stuff we have that we collect, covet, obsess over, freak out about, have to have, etc.... The germ of the idea began to formulate in my mind while thinking about the two times in my life where I lost almost everything I owned. While getting robbed in '89 and then becoming homeless in the '94 earthquake, certainly sucked, there was a strange sense of liberation that came from being without things. Well now it's 12 years later and I am back up to my eye balls in things. WHat I have been doing is photographing a portrait of a person, separate picture of their thing and then I briefly interview them about their relationship top their thing. So far I've shot about 50 People and Thing pairs. Everything from electric wheel chairs and oxygen tanks to hated guitars and hand carved wooden masks and then theirs the 40 foot high compost pile in Pasadena...

To get people in the mood, I came up with four arbitrary categories. They are: The Most Useful Thing You Have, The Most Interesting, Shocking or Bizarre Thing You Have, The Thing That Gives You The Greatest Pleasure, and Something You Have That You Really Really Don't Like But You Can't Live WIthout It. I am still looking for subjects, so please disseminate this information far and wide. My telephone numbers are 323 464 4684 home and 323 854 1512 elsewhere. Thanks for helping to spread the word,
Jack
