I won the “name that tune” cell-phone-ring contest that T.K. did to give away tickets to Kill Hannah tomorrow. (The answer was “Killers,” by Iron Maiden.)

Of course, the tickets are for tomorrow night, and the show is in Santa Ana. Do I really want to sit on the 405 for that? Signs point to “no.”

Speaking of Destroyer, can anybody definitively confirm whether the destroyer piece in Battleship was a two or a three peg boat? Ryan and I have a substantial bet on this.

At the moment I am contemplating this ever-present quandary: Why do I continue to watch Big Love? The acting isnâ€™t that great, the writing isn’t all that interesting (though I’ve never before heard more “Golly’s!” on HBO) and the plots are not really that compelling. So why do I persist?

Jez- I hear you on the Big Love. At what point does the ‘Well it’s better than most crap on TV’ cease to be a valid excuse? Real clumsy writing and way too much acting going on. I bailed after 1 1/4 episodes myself. I can’t believe they renewed it for another season.

Who had 2 pegs and who had 3? See below. This guy seems to be a retro boardgame expert and has the vintage destroyer down as a 2-pegger, but then image doesn’t really look like a destroyer. So it is possible that the name and the boat design didn’t match up in the old game. Hope this helps complicate things!

Thank you, senor burritoman, for that stellar sleuthwork. I stand by my statements: (1) Destroyer had two pegs. (2) Ron is a lying son of a bitch. (3) I did not ‘mod’ my own 1970s gamepiece; however, I did perform a few ‘mods’ on Ron’s car at lunch.

So quick we are to cite the 1990/2002 copyright-renewed Hasbro PDF. Little good it will do you, friend. Little good it did Hasbro. Little good it did Milton, and little good it did Bradley. They foibled years ago and hope to cast a blind eye to it now, presuming the impressionable youth of America, 1970s would let it slide.

“Shit. The Destroyer was too small to be a Destroyer. He had a big name to compensate for his wee-size,” said they behind closed doors.

You know and I know they changed the name of the boat without telling anybody. I can draw up on thousands. Thousands, Ron. Thousands of references citing the Destroyer with two holes, my defeated-yet-dogged friend. There is little you can do, save hang your head in defeat. I will settle for that, for starters. Following that I would expect to begin discussions of my compensation.
