Arthur Lee’s Love is, for me, the all time Los Angeles rock band. At some point, I’ll go into why exactly Love is at the top of the class of our local bands (and, perhaps at the same time, why The Eagles are the absolute worst). But right now, the time calls for action and not amateur rock critic wanking and obsessive list making.
If you did not know, earlier this year Arthur was diagnosed with leukemia. He recently underwent an experimental stem cell treatment and is currently in recovery. Last night, a benefit concert headlined by original Love guitarist Johnny Echols and his longtime backing band Baby Lemondade was held at the Whisky. Love were vastly underrated – it’s a shame Arthur’s music reached the outside world slowly, people realising how talented his band was but without them touring, not really knowing them during their heydey. I’m still a massive fan and still turning everyone I know onto Love’s music
