This place really suffers from a bad location and a dingy image. But for all of its imperfections, this place comes close to culinary perfection. The food is just heavenly and my family has become good friends with the hostess.

Whenever we order soup she always provides us with additional soup stock in addition to the soup – which is very very thick with flavor and meat! The house fried rice is one of my favorite dishes and is simply delicious. Their steamed fish is absolutely amazing!

While the cleanliness of this place seems a bit questionable, this place is as good and as cheap (or even cheaper!) as any restaurant lining the streets of Chinatown.

I LOVE GOLDEN HEN!!!! IT IT HONESTLY REALLY REALLY GOOD.YEAH IT APPEARS TO LOOK GHETTO , AREA AINT ALL THAT BUT THE FOOD IS WORTH GETTING SHOT 4.(J|K) JUST TRY IT IF U GOT THE MUNCHIES IT’S DELICIOUS

I grow up in the neighborhood and this was the best chinese food I have ever tasted. Too bad that I dont live in California anymore but i will never forget the food. Hi Chu

My first taste of Chinese food was at Wah’s Golden Hen, when I moved down the block as a child, a few years before it opened.

At any rate, it was *the* neighborhood place to chow down throughout the years before I moved away for college. I’m at Fujiya at least twice a month, and now that I know that Golden Hen is still run by the same family, I’m making a return there this week!

When I am traveling and end up anywhere near to Hollywood I make a point of eating lunch or dinner at the Golden Hen. The atmosphere is friendly, the service is incredible, and the food, especially the War Won Ton Soup, is nothing short of the best I have ever had. There’s a ‘A’ on the door so it doesn’t qualify as a ‘Dive’ and I have taken friends there on numerous occasions and they love it. Please don’t go there because I would like to know that I won’t have to wait in line to get seated the next time I visit. Close to the Hollywood Freeway and Vermont Avenue, LA City College is just blocks west of Virgil.

I have been going to this restaurant since it started. Prices have stayed very resonable.The Wah Family is very generous to the community and to their clientele. Next time try their Won Ton Soup, Egg foo Young, Fried Calamari, and Eggrolls. This is a Hollywood Dive. Where in LA can you feed a family of 4 for less than $25 besides the fast food crap.

I’ve actually never been there. I always thought it looked cheap from tghe outside. If I need food in 1 minute, I’ll go to Cha Cha Cha or one of the many taco corner restaraunts.

you have to try the poke from fujiya market on virgil and clinton. really authentic. you have to order ahead of time though.
