I believe my comments on this post (on the legendary The Great Taco Hunt) say all that need be said about Tito’s.
Pete, for your penance you must sing The Tito’s Theme Song 200 times in English and 100 times in Spanish.
Tito’s isn’t just about the food. It’s about family outings when you were growing up, stopping on your way back from Inglewood after watching the Lakers or Kings win and grabbing a bite before a flight at LAX. Vatos and suits eat side-by-side. And it’s been family-owned for nearly 50 years.
Tito’s may not be authentic Mexican food (which they never claimed to be) but they are 100% authentic LA.
Just reading the title of your post got that wonderfully stupid tune churning in my brain, a non-stop ditty that drives me crazy! I see it sometimes on late night TV and I have to go to sleep just to try and forget, yet those mofo’s have made me consider going to check them out. Pinchi Tito y tus mendigas canciones, me vas a matar!
EL CHAVO!
my usual night out is getting hammered at the Cinema Bar, then heading over to Tito’s for a cheap taco, then taking that taco to Johnnie Pastrami’s and dumping a pile of Pastrami into the taco….Oye Vey!
Johnnie’s is some damn good pastrami, man. I miss having that within walking distance.
After living in the Culver City area for several years and wondering why Tito’s had such long lines — and I can’t tolerate long lines — I finally was escorted to Tito’s for an authentic LA experience. It was unique and wonderful. It’s so rewarding to see bits of local culture thrive. I’ll have to learn this song!
