As if traffic at this point on the 10 wasn’t bad enough, sweet jesus I hope they never restore this thing… ugh.. somebody just knock some cans paint over the side of this thing and call it a day.

I can’t wait for graffiti to take over this one. It’s SO damn ugly. Not to mention creepy. Look at the old lily-white pudgy-soft man leading all the other runners. He looks like he’s crapped himself. Is he a wealthy Century City executive? And next to him, his wife? They’re in the lead – and they have to stay there or the poor people with pigment in their skin will overtake them. Run! Run for your lives!

Wait…. someone please explain to me how you can sue for getting your mural covered? Who paid for the mural? Isn’t it on city property? Did the city sell him a portion of the wall? Head about to blow up… someone explain.

UPDATE: after further digging it appears Twitchell's marathon mural is NOT the one on the 10, but rather the 405 near LAX. (How many cities can sustain two marathon murals?) Creeptastic mural is credited to Ramiro Fauve. Years ago it looked like this... http://fauvecreations.com/wrtings.html

“…the avuncular white dude sporting the No. 1 bib and leading the pack” has always reminded me of th late Rodney Dangerfield who, like many of Twitchell’s murals, gets no respect.

Certainly one of Twitchell’s more enduring works. In addition to the Ruscha mural paint-out I was heartbroken this summer to find Twitchell’s Steve McQueen mural at Union and 12th is gone, too.

Every time I pass this marathon mural I’m always particularly amused by the avuncular white dude sporting the No. 1 bib and leading the pack.

I read about that. The one you’re referring to was the Ruscha tribute. Same thing happened to one of his murals years ago & he successfully sued that time as well … he’s getting good at this.

Dude, you better hope this shit don’t get painted over.

Kent Twitchell had a mural in downtown painted over a few months ago, and all hell broke loose (okay, lots of people complained and people passed the buck around over who was responsible for the mistake).

Upshot is that Twitchell is probably going to sue and probably going to get money. From the city. And the mural will have to be restored.

So I don’t know about you, but I don’t wanna pay for that stuff. Let the thing sit there.
