Paul Oakenfold, Sandra Collins, Vello Virkhaus, and Trent Cantrelle. At the Knitting Factory. Something’s not right here. In the UK this bill would draw 50,000 freaks to a field. The math doesn’t even add up. Let’s call the Knit’s main room capacity 500. At $35 a pop we’re only at $17k and change. Oakenfold’s been known to fetch over $40k for a gig. What’s the catch here? Are they going to make me sit through a timeshare pitch at the door?

does anyone know if there’s an opening act for lily allen tonight?
There’s no way Oakenfold would pull $40k for an American gig outside of New York or maybe Miami. Hip-hop is America’s club music, not house/trance/techno. I suspect this has something to do with the fact–often remarked upon by visiting Europeans–that Americans have really, really big asses. It’s easier to throw around high gluteal mass on one huge beat per measure (as is still the case with most hip-hop) than on two or four evenly distributed beats.
