I’m a big fan of this TV show and I recently had the opportunity to email the producer and creator, Lou Pizarro, a few questions. As you can see, he’s a real good sport. Not to mention, a very protective brother. I disagree with him about Lauren Sanchez and was disappointed that he didn’t green-light drug-testing for NFL head coaches, but I appreciate the time he took out to answer my questions. Someone probably got to keep their car for an extra fifteen minutes. Here goes:
When you initially emailed me and asked me to contact you with any questions, I have to admit, I was a little worried. Since I had written some less than flattering things about Sonia on my page, I was thinking that I would call you guys up, Vanessa would trace the call and Sonia and Matt would arrive at my house, tow my Prelude and bitch-slap me in front of the neighbors. Was that the original the plan?
First and foremost to let you know the comments about my sister did not bother her one bit, for she just shrugs it off and laughs. And as far as Sonia and Matt showing up at your doorstep, it would be to say thanks for at least taking the time to watch the show, whether your opinions are good or bad..hehehe..so relax and don’t worry.
How’s your head? I saw you take that beer bottle “to the dome.”
My head is fine, I have had worse.
When you went to the hospital to get the stitches (I assume down the block on Reseda and Roscoe) did any doctors recognize you and put you in front of other people in the emergency room?
Actually I was treated like the all the normal people, no more important than the next sick individual. Some people did recognize me and that is flattering and appreciated enough.
You guys have balls. Ever had guns or knives pulled on you? What about karate? Anybody try and drop some martial arts while their car was being towed?
Yes, the situation gets handled accordingly.
How long have you been in this type of business?
Over 8 years.
Did you come up with the idea for the show? If not, who did? And was it directly inspired by the “Repo Man” TV show? I thought there was a Repo Man TV show a couple years ago.
Actually the idea was mine and I have had it on the back burner forever, I am aware that there was a repo movie and shows, but the inspiration for [Operacion Repo]
was my own.
I did some MySpace research and noticed you’re from the Bronx. Anytime I bump into any (Last of the Mo’) Ricans out here in LA I’m surprised. I’m from Jersey and y’all are thick back east. But, just like a lot of caucasians, Puerto Ricans seem to often be transplants to Southern California. Why did you move out to L.A.?
Not really recently, I moved out here because my parents moved out here. Been here ever since.
I turned on a couple of friends to the show. Some of them, however, think the show is “ghetto.” They contend that the show emphasizes the worst aspects of the personalities of the people whose cars are being repossessed. They think the show exploits people who humiliate themselves on camera. I disagree, though. I think the show is more like Cops than Jerry Springer. How do you address the haters?
Well, our intention is not to focus on [the] humiliation of others. That is not our objective. But unfortunately opinions are like assholes everybody has one and everybody is entitled to their opinions, so, in conclusion, whether some people say it looks ghetto and some do not, they’re entitled to their feelings on the show.
As you well know, we have no control over that. And we will have [an English] version as well. As far as repoeing is concerned, everyone–hispanic, asian, white, black, anyone can get into this situation where their vehicle gets repoed not only because they ignored their note but it may well be because of another priority emergency, lack of insurance coverage, loss of job. It can be an array of things, not just because they forgot to pay their note.
People, it seems, will do whatever it takes to be televised these days. And I believe “Operacion Repo” succeeds partly due to this phenomenon. Do people ever refuse to sign waivers allowing you to air their episode?
Sometimes, but for the most part they do not mind at all.
Since this a Spanish language show–is there an effort made to repossess cars from Latinos only? I know some haters who think the show “embarrasses” Mexicans. But I say that Mexicans aren’t the only ones who don’t pay their bills. And that since the show takes place in the Valley–what do you expect? Is there any effort made to “diversify” the races of the people on the show? Any selection process as to whose vehicle you’re towing?
Well, I think I answered this question in combination with #8.
I’m a Chevy guy. Why the Ford??? Did you get the best deal from them?
Well, to be honest with you, I am a Chevy man, always have been, but a deal came up and Ford gave it to me [and] I decided on the truck I have now. Had Chevy given me the deal, I would in fact prefer Chevy, being I continue to own my old Chevy Silverado ’02.
When you’re cruising around in the Ford, do you see people who may be late on their payments smashing through traffic trying lose you guys…even though you’re not after them?
Not really, more like when I drive up and on a rare moment while approaching a repo, we might come across someone running to their car and taking off, this has happened. It is funny but we cannot win them all.
Sonia’s eyebrows look very similar to the eyebrows on the Mr. Bungle clown. Where did she get the idea for them? Any inspiration from John Leguizamo perhaps?
Well, my sister is a versatile individual as far as her eyebrows are concerned. Her eye brows are her idea. She changes them frequently, just like she changes her hair. She can care less what people think of her. And those who even come close to trying something stupid, she handles them personally, male or female. She is that way.
Sonia’s MySpace scares me a little bit. Have you guys talked to her about it?
Haahahaha. Actually, it scares me, too. But my sister is my sister and she will do as she pleases. A lot of people missinterpret her just because she is who she is. Yes, she is into dark things, but she is also very smart and talented. People who look and try to analyze her myspace would not think past that. But if they knew her in person, she has her other side. She is sweet, helpful. She has brains. She repoes, she is a mechanic [and] a good cook. She has over 10 years of legal background. and she can get right down dirty with the best of them. Her personna…her tattoos, her piercings are just how she expresses herself. But she has for the most part a huge amount of people who respect and love her because of her outspoken individuality and just the fact she is straight to the point, no bullshit whatsoever…unlike some women or men who pretend to be something they’re not and smile at you while sticking the knife in your back…if you know what I mean.
Does she demand to wear that “wedding dress from Hell” when she repossesses cars? Its seems like it might get in the way.
Well, again…my sister likes the color black and dark colors. And as far as her clothing is concerned, my sister is a skirt and dress wearer. She does not like pants. She prefers heels and boots over sandals and tennis shoes. She has always been that way and that is why she has her clothes custom made. She likes what she likes. And the opinions of others about her style of dress matters very little. But you would be surprised how many people like what she wears. She feels comfortable in it and that is what she cares about, of course .
Matt is a great part of the show. He definitely helps me understand what’s going on since I don’t know Spanish. How did he become involved?
Matt came to us from another repo company that misstreated him and he decided to come work for me. We became friends and obviously he ended up being one of my repossessors.
Matt has a hilarious Wrestlemania-vibe. Does he prepare any Smackdown lines before he goes out on a job?
Not really, that is his, what we call funny side of Matt.
When that guy pushed Matt off his yacht, that looked really…convenient. He barely looked like he tapped Matt! Did Matt fall off the yacht to add some extra drama?
Sometimes things happen that we don’t expect so therefore like anything else it gets handled accordingly.
Did Matt ever file assault charges after being pushed in the water and losing his sunglassess? I thought he went a little “overboard” by threatening a lawsuit. He could’ve crushed that guy.That guy will never go near him again.
Nah. What is passed is passed and that is how he and I see it…no need for more drama.
Did you guys consider repossessing that yacht “pirate”-style. Like, on the high seas? That would’ve been great if you guys had chased him out in the middle of the ocean.
Not really.
There are some haters out there who think the show is dramatized. As in, fake. A lot of people are seen laughing, too. As if they’re not really struggling to get their car back. Are any scenes re-shot for T.V.?
Well there are haters and lovers of the show. This is with any show on TV really, no matter what it is, Jerry Springer, Jose Luis Sin Censura. They all all ask the same questions as well. My answer is pay attention to the notes at the beginning of the show. If you don’t like it don’t watch it. Who made everyone a Siskel and Ebert to determine what is staged, real or otherwise? Let us just say that in everyday television including the news there will always be someone out there to criticize what others are doing, because we ourselves sometimes do the same. Might not be with TV, but in everyday living. So therefore we continue to march on. If Bill Gates or Donald Trump worried in their early days of their haters [or how they themselves might not amount to anything], then probably they would not be in the position they’re in. And that is how I see it. But damn it I wish I was rolling in their shoes now..hehehehehhe
Vanessa’s MySpace page indicates that she’s in a relationship. But I never believe anything I read on “LieSpace.” Is there any chance that she goes for skinny white doods from Jersey? She apparently has very “Simi Valley” taste in music, but I think I can work with her.
She has been in a relationship for a couple of years now, so yes she is. And as far as the LieSpace is concerned, believe me I know.
There are a lot of “heavy metal” aspects to the people involved in Operacion Repo. Vanessa has skulls and iron crosses all over her MySpace. Froy wears t-shirts with aggressive-looking eagles and has thick leather wristbands. And Sonia’s involvement with the “underworld” seems to be without question. Did you guys ever think of starting a band called “Operacion Metal”?

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t, but there are good days and bad days. And sometimes on a good day someone will hand over the keys…versus throwing them at us.
Don’t know if y’all are Raiders fans or not, but I was wondering if you were happy to see Art Shell go. He seemed pretty lost last year. He made me think that there should be mandatory arbitrary drug testing for NFL coaches. What do you think?

I’m hooked! I came across this show last night… watched until 3am! Sonia is a trip! I love her! Froy…. what a BABE! Yes, he’s ‘short and cute’ and ‘the nice one.’ Did I hear right, he’s married to Sonia? Wow, odd combo! Matt… he’s the star of the show! He cracks me up the way he pisses Sonia off! LOL! I really love this show and am glad to watch it when I can. All of the cast members are unique in their own way and that’s what makes it enjoyable. If you don;t like the show or characters, you have the choice not to watch it, period.
Given the so-called “reality tv” shows, you can’t really get any better than “Operacion Repo”

For those of you that criticize the show you need to get a life, are your lives that dull that you have to come here with your bitching and whining. If you dont like the show, dont watch it, it’s simple. My personal experience watching the show it is very entertaining, it’s a show (remember this) Props to Sonia for being a strong latin woman that does not give a flying crap what people have to say about your apperarance or behavior, be who you wanna be, that’s why we all live in a country that belives in freedom of expression and beliefs. I am HORRIFIED to even think that people who made this video thought that what they were witnessing was anywhere near the category of professional!!! I was always impressed with “Dog”‘s treatment of people but also thought he was a little campy. You have now jacked him in category far, FAR above yours. I love the show. I do not know if it is fake or not, but either way is fine because it’s really fun. Matt is kind of ridiculous in my opinion(I am sorry to say that), because he is always bragging about himself or how he kicked somebody’s behind but he always get his kicked a whole lot. Sonia is really fun and I do not give a crap to how she likes to dress because it is all about her personality. Now Froy, he is a cutie. So sweet and never shows off(even though the first thing he says is “I am the cutest one..lol). Anyways, I love watching the show and I wish it would come on more often.

In respond to your letter, it is a waste of my time to respond to the aggressive or annoying comments we get, whether it is to me or the team, in reality it is not that I like to be defensive, but in all honesty I have to say that I love the fact that people talk without knowing the real me or the team, in fact they talk alot of garbage and without a quick minute to think..whether or not it is offensive to me or not.. so in turn it might be a waste but I love to show people that I most of the time will take as much as I want to take before I explode at some of the crap they comment, so yes I will take the time to let them know that I can defend and back up what I say any time anywhere and their might be days where I will just shrug it off like a piece of crumb. Now I will have to say that this is probably aside from myspace that I comment back to these so call shit talkers..yet I know of many sites that have blogs, and tru tv’s comments..I really don’t go to the extreme of arguing back..because that would definately take too much of my precious time plus this is enough.. I am hoping that people will just accept the fact that television is television and if someone wants to know something about the real person that they would at least before judging the title of the book, could at least read a few reality pages in it, to know if this is how the real story goes. In my personal experience if their is a show that I don’t personally take a liking to, I just either turn the channel and that is that, I don’t go to the extreme of finding a website or contacting the enquirer or such other things to get the first hand on talking crap about someone yet because our show is what it is, I guess people are more prone to taking things hard and dislike anyone involved in this case scenario.. Oh well..you can’t change people.

To the ‘Operation Repo’ crew, first off I am one of those individuals who does not like the show and I did only watch one episode and so I do agree with Sonia on that part – to all who don’t like the show just turn the channel bottom line that is all you have to do, problem remedied and so this post is not a hating post but back to the reason for my post and again this is not a post criticizing anyone as I don’t attack individuals no matter what they are in to, everyone is an individual and to each their own but this is merely a post I am writing out of concern and it is over an incident that took place in my hometown not to awfully long ago. I live in a fairly good neighborhood and there is a guy who lives right behind me that repo’s vehicles. He never had any problems out of anyone as far as we know. He’s a great guy, he always allowed the person whose car is was repo’ing’ to comment and would take the time to explain what he was doing and what they could do to remedy the problem so just a genuine professional but just a little over a month ago he went to repo a vehicle that a teenager had fallen behind in payments on and while he does follow the law completely and did his job professionally like he always does this teenager and 2 other guys came out with baseball bats and beat him pretty severely. When law enforcement came onto the scene the teenagers stated it was because of what they had seen on ‘operation repo’. Now of course the teenagers apparently have problems and they need to be dealt with accordingly but my question to Louis, Sonia or anyone else from the ‘operation repo’ show do you feel that your show can be too aggressive whether real or reenacted and what can you do to justify teenagers watching your show and then going out and beating someone? Again I am not criticizing as I don’t know your show well enough to say anything about it and I only learned this after our local paper reported that the teenagers had expressed that the repo crew from ‘operation repo’ was aggressive and they just thought all repo individuals were like those on ‘operation repo’ and that is why they came out swinging baseball bats at this guy I have known for years and who normally never had a problem up until now and so that is my question solely just how do you justify your show when teenagers have aggresively beat someone after watching your show?,

In continuance of my preivous post I did also want to encourage those of us you don’t like the show to not contribute to the ratings of ‘operation repo’ by watching every episode. Like Sonia has stated several times you are contributing to their success by watching and as I stated in my prior post I only watched one episode and I refuse to watch further and only came here to speak of my repo friend who was beaten by teenagers who thought that he was going to approach them as the cast of ‘operation repo’ approach individuals. This is not a hating post but a post of caution, these teenagers became so affected by this show that they almost killed a man. It happened in my neck of the woods. It may happen in yours next and so again do switch the channel turn the t.v. off, walk the dog, do something but don’t contribute to the ratings of ‘operation repo’.
Just my honest opinion and I’m not knocking anyone I just don’t want what happened in my area to happen anywhere else.,

What happened???? you ask..well I will tell you..individuals have an incredible way of making excuses for themselves as well as parents when it comes to disciplining their kids on what is right and wrong and like usual, they will make excuses on why they do the things that they do. I always am entertained by the reaction of people in general when I ask, where has all the respect and control and discipline gone? and why are we so quick to judge and condone on the basis of certain acts, while Operation Repo is a show, we in no means teaching anyone to be violent or hateful towards anyone whether in the business or not, and as far as these individuals who decided to pick up some bats and beat up on an innocent person who is just trying to do their jobs is bullshit!!!!! and should not be tolerated at no times!!!!!!!!!…and for these teenagers to make an excuse like ” I DID IT BECAUSE OF REPO” is just plain BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they again are trying to find an escape goat to funnel their real issues.
Time and time again we see all types of violence on tv whether it be action crime, comedy gestures, or reality shows..at no times was it meant to teach children or adults to into action what they witnessed on tv…this is why the number one rule is BE AWARE OF WHAT YOUR CHILDREN WATCH ON TV!!.. why is this you might ask??? these day in age their are those who use television as a babysitting tool and really don’t care what is going on..if you are not aware on your childrens reaction or feelings on what they are watching, then who is to say if they really know what is right and wrong? or what if they have other mental instabilities that you are not aware of and witnessing whatever action they saw thought it would be right to do in real life. We must as individuals teach our children as well as adults, to stop!!!!! making excuses for actions that we commit to others that have no fault, individuals need to stop putting the fingers on Operation Repo or any other shows or movies or programs..the key thing here is that we must realize that many things happen because of individuals making too many excuses for the causes of them…..their is a root to every evil..and believe me it did not start with television but the lack of understanding what really lies beneath…..and that is what I have to comment on this …..
PS: Hope your neighbor the repo man is doing well and as for those teenagers..they need a good lesson with the belt..or other actions as needed.
Sonia, Thank you for your reply and I hope you know that I wasn’t attacking your show but this is something that all people need to be aware of as you stated they need to watch what their children are watching and getting into and I do agree that this can come from any show.

Matt have to start standing up for himself instead of just lying down when people come to fight him, but hurry up and get out of there when you guys get the car, dont be continuing to fight matt, the only level headed guy is fruh, he is always calm and level headed.I feel really bad for some of the people that their cars are being possessed, while other deserve to not have a car, with their big mouths they should pay the bill.
Sandy, I can answer the question for you, you dont need the repo guys to answer it, the teenager had no right to base his opinion from a show, the guy that was talking to him was calm and showed him respect, so I think the teenager is making an excuse for his bad behavior and he should be sent to jail, she cant say O I watch the tv show and thought all repo guys are aggressive, some people the repo guys go at, they want to fight so the guys have to protect themselves, although i feel really bad for some people but not all, like the woman who hid the car in her garage and when the police came she made up stuff like she felt threaten and on and on, although Matt should not have jumped the wall because he cant take the car anyway, so i guess he wont do that again, he would stake the car out and wait until the woman drive it somewhere and bam, when she come out from the saloon or mall, no car no nothing thats what she got for her big ego, but if you scale the wall how you going to bring the car out.

This show is the shit!! I watch it everytime its on. Even when I’ve already seen it. Sonia’s great, Froy’s cool, I respect Matt because I want to be as strong as him, Lyndah is down to earth, and Lou holds it all together. I think I might get into this business.
OPERATION REPO IS A JOKE. HE NEEDS TO REPO CARS CAUSE HE HAS A FOOD FETISH.HIM AND HIS FAT FAMILY.
I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THE STEROID BOY LOSE A CAR CAUSE HE HAD TO TAKE A SHIT. THAT WAS WORTH THE 10 MINUTES OF MY LIFE TO SEE. YEAH! WE GOT ANOTHER CAR! NOW I CAN EAT ANOTHER CHIMICHANGA!!!!
First off, I just wanted to tell the “haters” of the show to back off. I can’t believe how many people on here have said how much they hate the show and which people they don’t like. It goes to show everyone’s immaturity levels that they “hate” something and decide to go on their computers, spend time typing and spend so much time talking about how they hate the show and belittling the crew. It is so stupid. All that time and energy wasted when you could have simply just changed the station. Not that difficult people, really! You can tell your friends and family you hate the show, that is normal but to actually spend time sifting through the sites to make your nasty opinion…doesn’t make sense at all. I mean, if you go to a restaurant and the food is completely disgusting and you can actually see vomit or spit in it and the bathrooms are disgusting and the establishment reminds you of Frankentein’s home then I understand spreading the word online to others as it is a health and safety concern and you wouldn’t want others getting sick but this is not that severe. It just goes to show that people spend more time being immature and negative than actually being productive. Spend time with your kids, watch shows you DO enjoy, get out and get some exercise but hell, why do you need to waste your time, come on here and be nasty? It is just plain stupid and those that reply in a negative nasty manor to my post just make my point even more!
Next issue; the crew. So what if Matt acts a little stuck-up, so what if Sonia dresses differently, so what if Lou and Sonia are bigger people…who the heck cares?! We were all made differently and I just wish people would smarten up and learn to accept that. How someone else dresses is none of our business- we do what we like and others do what they like. I admire Sonia for how confident she is in her skin and showing off what she likes. I have been battling with weight for a long time and am JUST starting to feel comfortable with myself and watching Sonia has shown me that I can be confident. I don’t have to hide because I am bigger. Sonia I really do admire you! Lou is an amazing father and it really shows! He works his ass off everyday doing a dangerous job that people take for-granted. Similar to the “meter-maid” jobs but even more dangerous. Everyone thinks of these jobs as just that- jobs. But they are SO dangerous!!! Lou risks his butt and works his butt off for his family, for his daughter. He is a very dedicated man! Froy is a funny character but also has gone through a lot too. Froy acts so sweet and nice but when it comes down to it, he can be tough and get the job done. Lyndah has the strength and attitude of her father and I say- you go girl!!! Matt does have that “high-and-mighty” attitude but that’s what makes Matt, Matt!! Would we like the show with anyone else?! No!! I think Matt is a tough guy and some people say he has major insecurities which is why he acts the way he does but I think he is just really comfortable with who he is. I think this crew is a great crew!! They make the show as good as it is and for those that don’t like it, let me repeat- change the channel!!! Really, it is NOT that hard people!!! Push a button or get off your butts and turn the knob, lean over and turn the dial- whatever system you have for watching TV just simply turn it!! Why waste your time coming on here making rude comments that only make you look like assholes?! It is REALLY stupid.
We love your show regardless if it is fake or real. We still don’t know but regardless like Sonia said- it is on TV for entertainment and to also show people that the repo business is not as easy as some may think. I would like to see the “haters” get off their butts and do this job. I think the public would get a kick out of it. Put your words into actual actions I say! If you can waste your time coming on here and talking trash and being ignorant then you can get off your butts, get out there and do the repo job. I guarantee all the “haters” that you wouldn’t be able to do it because it takes actual guts, actual courage. “Only the strong will survive” and the crew of Operation/Operacion Repo are strong!! Keep it up guys because you are all awesome!!
Don’t let the “haters” bug you. Everyone has people that like them and hate them and it is just amazing and comical actually, to see how much time and effort the “haters” waste to make their nasty negative opinions known. It is like back in public school where the people that tease you only do it to get a rise out of you because they have miserable lives or they simply have nothing better to do. Don’t waste your time defending yourselves, you don’t need to. You guys are the ones with good paying jobs, you are international stars, etc. Those “haters” are just people working crappy jobs or ones they put up with because they can’t get anything else and they have again- no lives.
