Zuned! Austin P.D. Hauls Off Microsoft Street Spammers at SXSW

By Victor - Wednesday March 14th 2007

Zuned!

Zuned!

In a rare instance of us supporting The Man, Austin P.D. hauls off a guerrilla marketing posterer for Microsoft Zune on 6th St. at SXSW.

I am not sure I heard everything clearly, but I think he said: “We’ll have none of your advertising for your DRM’d crippleware’d crappy MP3 player littering our town.”

Zune Guerrilla Marketer Arrested at SXSW

First the NYC stunt and now this? A man postering the hell out of Austin with gaudy Zune posters has been arrested. Besides the fact that the guy is putting GIANT posters up on seemingly small lightposts, it doesn’t seem…

Too bad we can’t actually hold Microsoft responsible. That would be fun huh? Arrest Bill Gates in Redmond, extradite to Austin, hold trial. Arlo Guthrie might write a song about it….

Dear “HATEMACS”, post #17. Why do you assume that folks who don’t like Zunes (or at least squirt-based marketing) are Mac users? Statistically, most of the folks who are NOT BUYING the Zune are in fact Windows users….

Actually, MSFT can be held responsible. The Austin law says that beneficiaries of illegal signs can be prosecuted.

But Microsoft is The Man as well. It’s funny when one The Man gets angry at another kind of The Man.

Piggyback marketing by Msoft to gain a little negative attention on the tails of the Boston “blinking device” marketing bomb scare. They obviously approved some sort of sketch-up of the ad, and can’t be oblivious to the fact that posting size limitations exist, or that billboards are illegal in many places for example.

This kid was just doing his job and now look… He has to go to jail for a day because, he was trying to earn a living. Bottom line is somebody puts up posters for a reason. What if it was a product you actually liked?
