By Victor - Monday March 19th 2007

PICK OF THE WEEK

Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse

How does a 60’s retro R&B act win over the indie set? Amy Winehouse is only 5′2″ (5′7″ with beehive). But the chick’s got more pipes than Super Mario and after hearing her live you’ll think she could post up on Greg Oden.

    Beirut fans…this just in:

The beloved Beirut, fresh from their wild show at Emo’s in Austin during South By Southwest, are in Los Angeles at present preparing to shoot their first video. You can be a part of it! We are looking for people of all ages to be extras. The video shoot is on Wednesday, March 21st and the hours you will need to spend with us are between
4-8pm. Dancing and costume-wearing may well be involved.

If you’re interested and free on that date please email to jib0613@yahoo.com as soon as you can. We are not taking care of traveling expanses or paying for the day, but if you are available and would like to take part, please write.

  9. Posted by Oscar 3/19/07 at 10:42 pm # Reply

Damn, I just noticed you forgot to put enter after the secret shows. Pinche Frank….

    Sorry M8!

  14. Posted by Mar 3/20/07 at 4:33 pm # Reply

Does anyone know if the Amy Winehouse Roxy show happened last night? Is the “b” hungover? So writing a strongly worded letter.

  15. Posted by ampersand 3/20/07 at 4:51 pm # Reply

yes, she did have a show at the roxy last night. i read on some trashy blog that she was thinking about cancelling her show due to spaceland not being able to accomodate her 10+ person band.

  16. Posted by Oscar 3/20/07 at 5:00 pm # Reply

Bitter, party of one Mar. I don’t know if last night went down. I’m guessing it did. She wouldn’t be the first artist to be guilty of getting too drunk after a show thought.

  17. Posted by Mar 3/20/07 at 5:07 pm # Reply

WEAK. To top it all off I sold my bloc party tix to a friend to go to Amy Beerhouse’s show. Blah.

  18. Posted by ryan 3/20/07 at 5:17 pm # Reply

Let us concentrate on the positive and focus on aziz. Aziz Reviews Sushi Roku is the new pick of the week. I said it.

  19. Posted by Jeff 3/20/07 at 5:30 pm # Reply

I heard Amy cancelled because Spaceland wouldn’t allow her to wear only shorts and a white belt. Supposedly she’s a big Rollins fan (of his music, though, not his sarcasm) and she was going to get some extra tattoos down on Venice beach and do some rad Flag covers. Bitchin. Sux Spaceland is a bunch of uptight hipster punks who want to keep every GOOD band from getting any REAL exposure.

Btw, I saw Amy at the gym the other day and she straight-up laughed at me. Just like Rollins! At first I thought it was Dave Navarro walking by, but then I realized it was her.

  46. Posted by Oscar 3/22/07 at 4:44 pm # Reply

For the Beck tickets, they were available searching under Beck instead of The Echo when I searched. Everyone else, good luck at the door.

  47. Posted by Spike 3/23/07 at 1:26 am # Reply

Stand in line for two hours for Beck, finally about to get in, when most my line sneaks in back door. Bouncer closes door, I get back in line, anddd they decide against letting the last couple of us in. Life sucks.

  48. Posted by Oscar 3/23/07 at 10:39 am # Reply

Sorry to hear that Spike. Anyone go to the show? I couldn’t go anyway but still curious.

  49. Posted by Pip 3/23/07 at 11:15 am # Reply

    Lame. Very very lame.
