Losanjealous Concert Picks: April 2-8

By Victor - Monday April 02nd 2007

PICK OF THE WEEK: Jason Lytle & Aaron Espinoza @ Silverlake Lounge

Aaron & JasonIt is bittersweet to see the decline of Grandaddy intersect with the resurgence of Earlimart, their kindred LA-based softrockers, whose tunes from their forthcoming record sounded damn good at the Getty last month. With the two frontmen from these bands coming together for an intimate one-off gig, you can expect “broken synths, acoustic guitars, birds, little songs, crickets, drum machines, and a bottle of wine,” as they put it on the Earlimart blog.

so i went to the mars volta show last night — my first time seeing them. i can’t hear a fucking thing today. nothing. i had no idea the troubadour was capable of that much sound. i keep feeling my right ear to see if it’s bleeding. the show was pretty kick-ass but 90 minutes was enough. i have no idea how long they played. jesus.

does anyone know if andrew WK is playing tonight or just speaking? i want to see if i can really go deaf in 48 hrs.

I’m pretty sure AWK is only hosting and speaking tonight.

Duncan Sheik @ Silent Movie Theatre 4/23 — two shows (like most shows at that venue): 7:00 & 9:30.

This flier says there’s a “a very special solo performance and DJ set” by AWK, though. Performance = speaking only? I’ve never seen the guy so I have no clue how well he speaks, if it counts as a solo performance.

AWK was one of the most fun shows I’ve ever seen. But he just did the motivational speaker thing at SXSW and I think this is more of the same. Not sure what he’s motivating us to do but it sounds fascinating.

So , I need some info about any Rage “warm up show”. They are playing in a few weeks and I am sure need to start playing together..Any one have any info? Please send it my way..and yes that Mars Volta show last night was amazing..I am deaf as well, and will be tonight again when I see them at the Orpheum…

Can anyone confirm or deny that Patrick Wolf is at Cinespace tonight? Upcoming.org is the only source I’ve seen, and they have a mysterious comment underneath the announcement that he’s playing, that says he’s not playing. Baffling.

Does anyone want to go see Dean & Britta with my friend Jen and I on Friday at The Getty? I reserved 4 tix and two of my girlfriends bailed today. I will be there early to get good seats. Let me know!

Was on the Echo website and noticed two shows that I don’t see listed on Losanjealous:

Deerhoof and The Bird and the Bee at the Natural History Museum of LA County 6/1

Circle Jerks/400 Blows ExPlex 5/3 Silverlake Film Festival

Also, Fresh Kid Ice (aka Freaky Chinese) has been added to the Rock the Bells line-up. Supposedly.

Did anyone mention Andrew Bird at Amoeba on April 30th yet? I’m hoping I’m not too tired from Coachella so I can still go to this.

We got your Andrew Bird covered, Renee:

But !!! just might burn Amoeba down to the ground 4 days prior, so his show may or may not happen.
