4/7/07: The cauldron continues to simmer in downtown Los Angeles, if you haven’t tuned in recently. I was scrutinizing ugly buildings for Curbed LA (I’m a freelance judge; it keeps me busy nights and weekends) when I suddenly found myself in a river of red courtesy ANSWER Coalition, Latino Movement USA and an assortment of other organizations. There was a flurry of messages to take in, but the number of messages paled in comparison to the number of baconwrapped vendors in full effect. Never before have I seen such a collection in such a centralized location. Side note: There’s a pretty lively immigration discussion taking place at bLA right now if you’re the debating type. Hot dogs wrapped in bacon and immigration protesters wrapped in the American flag. I don’t know which makes me hungrier.
I only wish these protesters would turn their passion toward their home countries to fight for reform. Just think of what the protesters would accomplish in Mexico if they took to the streets and fought for their equal rights instead of leaving and protesting here.
