PICK OF THE WEEK
Art Brut @ Troubadour
What, you were expecting Klaxons? I don’t know why everyone’s going on about Klaxons. Klaxons this, Klaxons that. Me, I’m not convinced yet. Art Brut, on the other hand, are not the next new anything. They just turn out songs with memorable lyrics and actual tunes, which is more than you can say for far too many groups today.

For the “Heads Up”, you forgot to add The Arcade Fire’s Greek shows. They go on sale April 21st.
I was going to wait for the TM link to go live before listing the AF shows, but I went ahead and put placeholders in there for now. See if you can spot them.
I thought it was Linkin Park?
Can’t believe no one knew (or shared) that the special guest for KCRW Sounds Eclectic was Travis. Damn.
Ugh, actually I saw the Travis thing here, but forgot to share. I suck.
Yeah, it’s “Linkin Park” at the Greek. Hopefully the links will be up soon. I wonder if KROQ is having a pre-sale. Also, the KCRW show doesn’t announce the secret guest till the day of. Last year, it was Franz Ferdinand. Any word on Nickleback’s secret show Frank?
Correction made. It’s like the damn DaVinci Code around here. But I am still holding out hope for Nickelback’s secret show.
If you’re interested in seating capacity at socal venues, here‘s an informative press release(?) courtesy of LA Observed about Live Nation renovating the Palladium:
In Los Angeles, Live Nation currently owns and/or operates the House of Blues on Sunset (capacity 1,000), The Wiltern Theatre (capacity 2,300), Gibson Amphitheatre (capacity 6,185), the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine (capacity 16,300) and the Hyundai Pavilion in San Bernardino (capacity 65,000). In addition to its House of Blues in Anaheim (capacity 950), Live Nation also has an exclusive booking agreement with the Avalon in Hollywood (capacity 1,400), the Long Beach Arena (capacity 13,500) and the Honda Center in Orange County (capacity 7,500).
Also, the Palladium has a capacity of 4,000.
Hey I saw Marjorie Fair at USC Springfest 2 years ago. I really liked them and wrote their name down on a piece of paper which I probably lost while I cracked a smuggled beer. Just sayin…cuz I was about to make fun of Syd Barrett night til I saw their name. Hehehe.

Just to clear up any confusion
I’ve seen SMOOSH. They actually DO do exactly what you think they’d do, sing songs about recess and crushes and stuff.
Any word on Nickleback Frank?
A couple of new Nickelback tunes from last night are on Youtube. Pretty solid and in the same vein as everything else but not real knockout tunes.
I’ll check them out. I hope it’s the same kind of tunes Star 98.7 blasts over and over and over again. Thanks V!
Ugh, I wish work didn’t block YouTube. I really wanna hear the new Nickleback tunes :(
I just heard 2 of the new songs. Fabulous! You’ll be hearing those in heavy rotation once the new album is out! Well, maybe not the 6 minute long song, but good times all around.
Any word on who the suprise guests are w/ Tom Morello tonite at the Hotel Cafe? it’s not listed on their website like it usually is. Thanks in advance music junkies
The surprise guest at Nightwatchman is a man who hovers just behind the front row, bumping the photographer next to him every time he attempts to take a photo.
You mean B Real from Cypress Hill Ryan?
No Nickleback news yet Frank? How about another Coachella band having a secret show tonight in L.A.? Let’s just say they’re a “special guest” at a local venue’s anniversary show. No Ryan, it’s not Genesis.
Oscar you are good. you are very good. mad props. I am also working on Nickleback venue locale. let’s see who gets it first.
I hope you figured out who the “secret band” is tonight. ::click click:: Still working on Nickleback….
Yeah i fig’d it out. Thanks! Here’s the Nightwatchman special guests whoever is interested. (although Oscar just made me switch my plans)
The Nightwatchman
Shadwrak and the Greedy Souls
Abby Travis
Carter Falco
Extreme
Mick Mars
B Real
Okay, okay. Let me guess, if you didn’t figure it out, the “secret show” band is The Silversun Pickups. BTW, the “Linkin Park” links are up…
how soon do you think we should get to tonites secret show? doesnt the venue only have like a 200 people capacity?
The venue is The Silverlake Lounge. For details, click on my name =)
House of Blues member sales are going on right now (public sales this Saturday) for:
Albert Hammond Jr. on 05/21/07
Dolores O’Riordan on 07/19/07
Nice Tommie. Hope you had fun seeing the Silversun Pickups at The SIlverlake Lounge last night. Those 10 year anniversary shows can be crazy!
Thanks Oscar on the dope tip! It was rockin’. Even shared a cig w/ Johnny Cash (Jauqin Phoenix) outside after the show!
Hi Jenn–do you have that albert hammond jr HOB password? thanks!
a, there’s no password. You just have to sign up for HOB membership, which is free.
Anyone know the “linkin park” presale pass for tomorrow?
No word yet on Linkin Park or Nickleback kid.
2nd word of latest album
word jenn! you beat me to it. so surprising that radio station here is promoting it. do they even play them on there?
I think it’s okay to post who Linkin Park really is. I’m sure KROQ will be promoting the concert and pretend they really support the band. I don’t mind lopro on secret shows. Why did we become secretive all of a sudden? I already forgot =P LOL Oh yeah, Nickleback…..
tommie, “do they even play them on kroq?” is exactly what i asked a friend after learning that they were sponsoring the show. i’m really hoping that there is a secret nickelback show in the works…i even dreamt about being at said show. LOL
KROQ presales don’t always get the best seats, so don’t be afraid to throw them back and roll the dice on the Saturday general onsale.
I’m guessing any Interpol LA show, secret or not, will be after Coachella. There’s a big hole in their itinerary in May. They have to preview the new LP for their new masters at Capitol before the June 5 release date.
It will probably be an industry show, kind of like what The Police did for “Nickleback”. I don’t know how much the jet lag from playing Canada Wednesday will enable them to play a pre-Coachella show. You also have to remember they play Vegas Saturday so maybe a post Coachella show may or may not happen. Still workin it though. Dare to dream.
There’s been a lot of hype for Battles on the Radiohead ateaseweb forum.
So, Battles @ Troubadour Saturday, June 30 ($12 adv)
Hype as in they think they’re a good band, or as in it might be them. Here’s Battle’s webpage: http://www.bttls.com
Thanks jenn!
I love Linkin Park.
I also have to agree KROQ has no place to promote Linkin Park other than to grab attention.
FREE Monsters Are Waiting show @ Orange County Museum this Thursday. 7-10pm. http://www.ocma.net for more info.
They always use Rodney on the Roq as their source for being the first to play a certain band even though KCRW & Indie 103.1 probably had that band on rotation for a year.
The Nightwatchman at Fingerprints May 6 @ 4pm. Wristband given by pre-ordering the cd.

I’m not sure if these concerts are for UCLA students only or open to the public also.
Man, that presale sold out in 1 minute!? WTF? Is it me or did the sale start 1 minute after it should of? Mmm…
i guess i’m going to have to wait until sat… :(
