Losanjealous Benevolent Society Events: June 8 – 14

losanjealous benevolent societyThe Losanjealous Benevolent Society gathers a weekly list of strange happenings and fun events in LA–the more ridiculous, the better. Visit our events calendar for the full list. And if you’re organizing or know of an event you think belongs on the list, send us info at tips@losanjealous.com.

FRIDAY

Art Dorks Collective @ thinkspace
Our work is really not easy to define. The influences range from the 1980’s to the 1880’s and we each bring a different feel to the mix. If I can say one thing about our work, it is that it is a celebration of the things we love as people. What else should you make art about? Through Fri 7/6.

Charisma @ Machine Project
Charisma has been reviewed as “genuinely nutso” and “Princess Mononoke meets Kafka.” Aaron Gach described it to us as “pretty bizarre in a good way” and “sort of David Lynch-ian.” There will probably be beer.

SATURDAY

Harold and Maude @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery
Indisputably one of the most beautiful and romantic but quirky films of the seventies. A young man obsessed with death and an older woman bent on living life to its fullest, find each other and start an unlikely romance. Gates at 7:30 pm. Film at 9:00pm. $10 donation tickets available at gate. small town talk spins before and after the show.

Ill Morphology @ Copro Nason Gallery
Featuring the paintings of Anthony Ausgang, Thomas Han and Joe Ledbetter. These artists each depict parallel cartoon realities each inhabited by a different crew of morphed-up animal characters. Although each artist has a unique style, the end result is a surprisingly cohesive universe. Through Sat 6/30.

Multi Roller Derby League Social
If you simply cannot wait any longer to get your Derby Dolls fix, then be sure to join us at our Sleazy 70’s Fundraiser and Multi League Social on Saturday, June 9th at the Airliner. That’s your chance to shake-shake-shake your booty with your favorite LA Derby Doll, plus it’s a unique opportunity to meet skaters from roller derby leagues from all over Southern California.

Pixelodeon
A weekend of over 300 videos in themed screening sessions, representing the diversity and talent in online content. See what’s happening online and meet the people who are making it happen. Through Sun 6/10.

Thought Bunker @ Betalevel
Two contestants pick random words from a hat. While they prepare, there is Live Nude Brain. Then, each contestant must fight for their word. Winners move on to the next round. Whoever wins must compete in the ultimate round. That person must fight the big boss. That person must fight THUNKER.

SUNDAY

Revisiting The Mailroom
Panel discussion based on author David Rensin’s critically acclaimed book, The Mailroom: Hollywood History from the Bottom Up. Spanning 65 years in the entertainment industry, David Rensin’s bestseller focuses on the personal stories of more than 150 former mailroom employees and how they maneuvered their way to the top.
