Losanjealous Concert Picks: June 11 – 17

By - Monday June 11th 2007

PICK OF THE WEEK

LCD SoundsystemLCD SOUNDSYSTEM @ El Rey
Sun | Mon | Tues
Potentially legendary sold out 3-night stand for J. Murphy and Co., and, if I’m not mistaken, the first trio of sold out El Rey gigs for a single act since White Stripes in 2002. Could be a turning point for them before a breakout to the masses.

This is from The White Stripes website:

The White Stripes will be performing a very special show in West Hollywood, CA on June 20th. The band will play a live show for fans at a specially constructed “Icky Thump Records” store on Sunset Boulevard. The location of Icky Thump Records is the site of the former Tower Records flagship store at 8801 W. Sunset Blvd. Tickets for this unique performance will be made available to the first 200 fans who purchase the album at this store, which opens at midnight on Monday, June 18th. Tickets are limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis. A handful of tickets will also be available to listeners of KROQ radio from Friday, June 15 – Sunday, June 17th. The Icky Thump Records performance will be the band’s first Los Angeles show since December 2005.

Anyone know what the deal is with the White Stripes at the Forum? Are there going to be seats on the floor, or is there a pit, or is it all GA? Anyone had any luck with presales or anything?

  17. Posted by deens 6/14/07 at 2:30 pm #

    9/19/07
white stripes @ the Forum, Inglewood, CA
    w/ cold war kids

  18. Posted by Jenn 6/14/07 at 3:30 pm #

@Anonymous: They have an Amex presale going on. Judging from the sections listed, they’ve got risers on the floor, but it seems to be mostly GA. They seem to have a separate selection for moshpit, but it’s a bit confusing — it said “FLOOR GA
GA FLOOR SECTION MOSH PIT” when I was buying the ticket but my confirmation just says “section FLR GA”. Supposedly they’ll have fanclub presales as well, sometime next week (and I’m betting those service fees would be comparatively less), the same time as their San Diego show.

Hammer Museum’s got “Also I Like to Rock” free concert series for every Thursday in July (8pm):
07/05: Foreign Born & Great Northern
07/12: The Pity Party & The Little Ones
    07/19: Castledoor & Fields
07/26: Sea Wolf & Midnight Movies

The Buzzcocks were added to Sunset Junction’s Sunday line-up.

09/14: Zoe with Los Abandoned @ Ford Amphitheatre — tickets go on sale 5pm today through TicketWeb

  19. Posted by shenny 6/14/07 at 8:49 pm #

Re: White Stripes @ Forum. They had the same sections listed for for Muse @ The Forum (i.e. GA Floor, mosh pit, whateva). Turned out it was just a big ‘ole general admission floor.

Oops…Troub is booked all this week and next.

  24. Posted by ThomThom 6/15/07 at 11:19 am #

    The Fonda is open…..hmmmmm

  25. Posted by Oscar 6/15/07 at 11:55 am #

They probably mean the World Tour contest they’ve been having every week. They have a contest where they send fans around the world to check out their favorite band. If they do play a show here, it might be at Icky thump records! LOL

  26. Posted by ThomThom 6/15/07 at 12:03 pm #

Good point…I’m sure what they’ll do is announce on Monday morning their new band for the month long “KROQ Road Trip” will be Interpol and what they’ll do is announce a headlining LA show and the grand prize will be to send you to one of their midwest dates in August or something.

  27. Posted by eric 6/15/07 at 12:04 pm #

    sunday at spaceland is open.

  28. Posted by DK 6/15/07 at 12:20 pm #

Spaceland would be fun, So would the Fonda. Wasn’t that one of there first shows in LA? I saw them there…And I really don’t want to see thme in KC or Omaha…

  29. Posted by ThomThom 6/15/07 at 12:31 pm #

If Interpol is in fact the next band on KROQ’S “Road Trip” giveaway the tickets will definitely be on sale next Saturday the 23rd. I wonder what venue they’ll play on their headlining tour in LA…Wiltern?

  30. Posted by Oscar 6/15/07 at 1:20 pm #

Maybe The Greek, but I doubt it. Their first L.A. shows we’re two shows at the Troubadour, then two shows at The Henry Fonda, two Palladium shows, 1 Wiltern show, two at the Olympic, two more Wiltern, two Greek and I forget after that. Not counting KROQ Festival shows of course. All that’s left is the Hollywood Bowl. A small show would entail a small “secret” or warm-up show being set up.

  31. Posted by shenny 6/15/07 at 2:08 pm #

Maybe Gibson Amphitheatre? The biggest venue they’ve headlined in SoCal was the Greek Theatre. But maybe they’ll start off smaller than work their way up to bigger venues like The Forum.

  32. Posted by ThomThom 6/15/07 at 2:26 pm #

I think that with a band like Interpol, they really should not do HUGE venues, The Greek was pushing it for me

  33. Posted by Oscar 6/15/07 at 4:59 pm #

Maybe Interpol will play The Gibson. They haven’t played there yet. Big, but intimate. Also, just so you know, The Arcade Fire is coming back in September to play at The Hollywood Bowl. Same with LCD Soundsystem.

  34. Posted by Robert 6/15/07 at 6:21 pm #

Actually, Interpol played twice at the gibson for kroq of course not headlining and was it two shows at the greek or one cause i know of one the same day bloc party was playing the palladium?

  35. Posted by K 6/15/07 at 9:05 pm #

Snoop Dogg at the Fonda 6/26. Onsale tomorrow, 10 am.

  36. Posted by Michael 6/15/07 at 9:16 pm #

Hey Oscar, I heard about the Arcade Fire show also, do you know if it is with LCD Soundsystem or are they seperate shows?

  37. Posted by Oscar 6/15/07 at 10:19 pm #

Umm, I did say except KROQ shows, right? They did play ACC @ The Gibson twice, Verizon twice & once in the gateway to hell, the Hyundai Pavillion. You were right, it was once at The Greek. My bad. he Gibson does seem like where their next gig would land.

  38. Posted by Oscar 6/15/07 at 10:21 pm #

I heard they were both on the same bill from two sources, but I would think they would play seperately seeing they could both totally headline the Bowl. You never know though…

  39. Posted by Michael 6/15/07 at 11:54 pm #

Thanks for the info. I bet they are on one bill, at least I hope.

  40. Posted by Robert 6/16/07 at 1:17 am #

My bad oscar next time I must spend more time reading it closely but thanks on clearing up the greek otherwise i would have felt shitty for not knowing about it

  41. Posted by Jenn 6/16/07 at 7:06 am #

@shenny – re: White Stripes @ Forum: you’re right. They just put up a new map entitled specifically “White Stripes” and it’s pretty much the end stage set-up with all the floor as GA.

  42. Posted by Tommie Moonshine 6/17/07 at 9:41 pm #

Snoop Dogg Henry Fonda Theatre June 26th Tixs on sale now.

  44. Posted by Pete 6/18/07 at 1:43 am #

Applying the name “Street Scene” to a show at the county fairgrounds doesn’t really make sense. Then again, this is San Diego we’re talking about.
