    hahaha seriously!

how could you forget daft punk!

does anyone know who is opening for sure.

i keep hearing different things. kavinsky, sebastian, ratatat? maybe a combination of all three?

  12. Posted by Tommie Moonshine 7/17/07 at 10:04 am #

all three are opening. The Daft Punk show should be Pick of the Year or even Decade. Anyone know of any afterparties for this saturday? besides the standard downtown pool the next morning?

  13. Posted by T-Fal 7/17/07 at 10:30 am #

If all 3 are opening, what time is this show going ’till? Anybody else hear about the cancellation of the Groove Armada DJ set at the Standard tonight?

  14. Posted by The Dude 7/17/07 at 10:33 am #

Whats with this Standard morning after party for Daft Punk?…Any info?

  15. Posted by Anthony 7/17/07 at 10:49 am #

What? Grove Armada? Which Standard is it at? The Hollywood Bowl was dancin its ass off Sunday Evening….One of the biggerst dance parties this year…I am sure Daft Punk is going to be THE BIGGEST this year!

  18. Posted by Michael 7/17/07 at 11:32 am #

The Hollywood bowl made a huge mistake not having Groove Armada close the night out. I was shocked to see the place rocking so hard. Made me feel better about Underworld later this summer.

  19. Posted by Oscar 7/17/07 at 11:56 am #

The Hollywood Bowl didn’t make a mistake in letting them GA open. Cafe Tacuba rocked hard too and had the crowd going. The majority were there for them and they did get down with Groove Armada. I still think Cafe Tacuba edged them out. Cosmo has the most energy of any lead singer I know. Yes, Groove Armada did cancel their Standard appearance and already flew home. They’ll be back near the end of the year.

  20. Posted by T-Fal 7/17/07 at 12:20 pm #

Did anyone else notice the white exodus from the show during Cafe Tacuba’s set? I don’t think it was the right choice to put those 2 bands together. The Groove Armada fans got way too short of a set after waiting 4+ years since their last full band appearance in LA.

Oh, by the way… Cafe Tacuba suck balls. The lead singer’s voice makes me want to claw my face off.

  21. Posted by Michael 7/17/07 at 12:59 pm #

Hey Oscar. I’m totally down with being exposed to new music and cultures. Especially after being so pleasantly surprised by the Gotan Project during last year’s KCRW program. It just wasn’t a good pairing. To me it didn’t appear that it was even a 50/50 split, at least where we were sitting, down in the boxes.

Though that is not the point. A good line up should feed off of each other, expose fans of each band to something new. Something they can relate to, and to me, the rest of the night was a let down after Groove Armanda’s set. Maybe it was the language barrier. What the Bowl should have done is had a full blown Rock En Espanol night and a separate Balearic Beat night.

  22. Posted by Tommie Moonshine 7/17/07 at 2:17 pm #

I have to agree. its terrible to planning to have groove armada playing when there was still light out. YET, they still killed it and had half the bowl dancing. Cafe Tacuba I have to say was the worse act I ever seen there out of approx 20 bowl shows, edging out Belle and Sebastians performance last yr for the dishonor. So no ones got an afterparty for daft???? it will prob end before midnight and we need somewhere to keep dancing. Im guessing S&K will get 30min sets each and ratatat 45min set. all w/ the house lights on. buzzkill! then daft will destroy the place w/ a close to 1hr 45min set.

  23. Posted by Pete 7/17/07 at 3:45 pm #

I hereby offer my house for the DP afterparty, but I don’t have a garage in which to place the furniture.

  24. Posted by Michael 7/17/07 at 6:26 pm #

Pete, if you pull off the DP afterparty, give me a call and I will help you set them up, set them up.

  25. Posted by K 7/17/07 at 11:07 pm #

Rilo Kiley @ the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 15!

  26. Posted by Spike 7/18/07 at 4:51 am #

Anyone know if the impending Rapture shows at the Mayan are age restricted?

  27. Posted by FRANK 7/18/07 at 8:34 am #

I’ll bring the chips to the afterparty!!!

  28. Posted by Anthony 7/18/07 at 8:53 am #

I cannot make it to the Rapture show on July 26th at the Mayan anymore.

The show isn’t sold out but I want to sell my ticket. I’m selling it for face value, $35 bucks and I have the paper ticket available. I live in the San Fernando Valley but I can meet you in the Hollywood area or Burbank.

if you’re interested contact me at [email protected] with subject “The Rapture Ticket”

    Thanks!

P.S. Who’s down to party in the parking lot after the DP concert?

  29. Posted by Oscar 7/18/07 at 9:29 am #

I can understand that maybe it wasn’t the best pairing but that doesn’t mean Cafe Tacuba sucks. They’re really good and maybe most people that weren’t fans of the band entering the show couldn’t appreciate the music because of the language barrier. I know if I was going to see a show as diverse as this, I would maybe listen to a few tracks and know what to expect. If people didn’t want to be there, they should have left during the intermission instead of during the middle of Cafe Tacuba’s set. The majority there were Cafe Tacuba fans and did give Groove Armada a chance. It is the KCRW World Festival series, not the KCRW Music Genre series.

  30. Posted by K 7/18/07 at 10:49 am #

I saw Cafe Tecuba at Coachella and they were a blast. Never listened to any of their music before, but they throw how to get down onstage. Great live performers.

Just had to throw down some support for them, so Oscar wasn’t the only one.

First off, I hope you aren’t taking any of this personal Oscar. I love your Scenestar site, and really appreciate all the great tickets I have scored from your very diligent pre-sale info.

Still, take a look at the rest of the Bowl’s world festival line up:

    http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tix/series_world.cfm

Every night is based on a single theme for each concert. Meaning the series as a whole should be viewed as a World Festival, not each individual night. That’s why you don’t see someone from Finland playing on the Armenian night. Following the format that the Bowl has set up, how would you describe the program for the Cafe Tacuba night?

I did listen to them before we went to the show. Even talked to one of my friends so I understood who they were, and the importance/history of the band. Still, after Groove Armada I wanted to dance. I wouldn’t have even cared if it was in Spanish, as long as it made me move. If they wanted to be more multi-cultural they should have booked someone like Manu Chao, Los Amigos Invisibles, Kinky, or Nortec Collective.

  33. Posted by Anthony 7/18/07 at 7:32 pm #

What the fuck is going on with the M.I.A. show!

The Echo’s website said they’d be hosting the show at the Union Station. So I bought my ticket on June 30th and since then received my ticket. A few days after buying the ticket, they removed the show from the site which was pretty shady.

And now I just read on her myspace that she will be performing July 30th at the Echoplex and the Union Station show is no where to be found on ticketweb.com

Anyone know what the hell is going on and if those that have tickets to this supposed Union Station show can use them for the show at the Echoplex on July 30.

    Get your shit together Echo!

  34. Posted by skim 7/18/07 at 7:34 pm #

    anthony,

mia is playing at echoplex. get it while it’s hot

  35. Posted by skim 7/18/07 at 7:35 pm #

anthony, i would call the place where you purchased your ticket, but most likely it’ll be transferable to the echoplex show.

sorry didn’t read your comment right.

  36. Posted by Oscar 7/18/07 at 8:06 pm #

Wow! Thanks for the glowing endorsement Michael. I’m glad you like The Scenestar. Don’t take the whole comment banter to the heart kid. It’s actually GOOD that we’re going back and forth about music. Everyone has different tastes and it would be boring if we all liked the same band. You don’t have to worry about looking over your shoulder at Daft Punk wondering if that’s the time you’re going to get jumped by me.

Looking at the lineup you posted, I was thinking, where the heck does Macy Gray connect with Brazilian Girls!? I guess Cafe Tacuba/Groove Armada wasn’t the only “mismatch”. I think that’s cool that you made an effort to learn about the band before you went to see them. I think you were expecting to dance more and you can’t do that with every Cafe Tacuba song. I myself was amped about both being there but you can’t say they’re not multi-cultural when Cafe Tacuba is getting play on KCRW & winning Grammys (Not just the Latin ones). Just be glad it was Cafe Tacuba instead of Mana or Rebelde.

  37. Posted by Rose 7/18/07 at 9:34 pm #

Seriously! What’s with the M.I.A. show?? I haven’t even had a chance to purchase tickets because the random times I decide to check TicketWeb are different from the random times they decide to make ‘em available. :(

  38. Posted by shenny 7/19/07 at 7:37 am #

A couple shows in the 909:
She Wants Revenge @ The Glass House, Oct 5
Tokyo Police Club, White Rabbit @ The Glass House, Oct 24

  39. Posted by ampersand 7/19/07 at 9:02 am #

i concur re: tickets for the m.i.a. show, it’s been very irritating and it’s going to suck having to wait on line the night of. what’s the size of ex-plx (sp?)? i’ve never been but imagine it to be 1/2 of the echo.

  40. Posted by skim 7/19/07 at 9:26 am #

    @&

Ex_Plx is now called EchoPlex. Anyway, EchoPlex is probably 2-3 times BIGGER than The Echo. There’s a bigger stage, lounge area, and outdoor smoking area.

  41. Posted by Renee 7/19/07 at 10:18 am #

Tokyo Police Club – El Rey Theatre, 10/23/07

Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster at 10 AM tomorrow.

And did anyone try buying tickets to the Stars show this morning? I don’t know if it’s Ticketmaster acting up or if the demand is just that big, but I’ve gotten the “tickets are currently not available online” page for the past 18 minutes.

  42. Posted by Renee 7/19/07 at 10:22 am #

Oops, sorry false alarm there about Stars tickets…stupid Ticketmaster.

  43. Posted by Michael 7/19/07 at 11:35 am #

Damn Oscar, do you have any idea how much I had to spend to hire 2 Cylon body guards for the Daft Punk show? Now I am going to have to listen to them bitch all night about how any robot could rock the crowd like that, and how real robots would never do a Gap ad. All the while speaking in their mocking french accent robot voices.

  44. Posted by Oscar 7/19/07 at 1:12 pm #

Yeah. You might want to get your money back now. It sounds like they’re not even going to let you enjoy the show!

Alex, thanks for the MIA info. Got my tickets to the 2nd show… wooooooooo!

    Daft Punk Set Times:
    Sebastian & Kavinsky — 8:15 to 9:15
    Ratatat — 9:30 to 10:15
    Sebastian & Kavinsky – 10:20 to 10:45
    DAFT PUNK — 11:00 to 12:30

I have no idea why S&K are playing twice.

  49. Posted by Rose 7/19/07 at 8:09 pm #

Of course M.I.A. would go on sale again while I’m at work. I guess I’ll have to trudge out to the ‘plex Monday or Tuesday night and hope I can score tickets. Has anyone bought tickets night of before? What are my chances? Thanks for the heads up anyway, good lookin out :)

  50. Posted by shenny 7/19/07 at 9:32 pm #

I’ve bought tix night of shows before and it always worked out. Never had to pay scalper prices. Some times a kind person gives ya a ticket for free :D
