Sadly, I get those texts almost daily. In these cases, I switch to my surface streets route (which in my case is Carbon Canyon between Orange and San Bernardino Counties). I actually took a similar picture once, on Grand Avenue in Chino Hills headed toward Diamond Bar. And I was in absolutely no danger by doing this; traffic was completely stopped.
