Time out, now. That congratulatory note was as heartfelt as they come. Leslie set something extraordinary down for the masses, and was duly recognized. Competition notwithstanding she won fair and square. I like those other records just as much as the next guy, but how many times did you sit down and put MIA's full album on repeat this year? Be truthful. The only real competition I see above might be LCD. Even then, the album as a whole might not have the staying power of Leslie's offering, KCRW & iPod endorsements be damned. Time will tell.

Clearly there is only one way to settle this.

Egyptian Lover: Who would you award the "Short List VII" crown to, and why? Please take into consideration all of the nominees; not just the finalists.

Thanks for all that you do,

Wait--who votes for this thing again?* This pick smells like pop culture zeitgeist winning over actual musical brilliance. I like Feisty as much as the next liberal, Mac-using blogger, but her half bland record can't justifiably take higher than about 5th place on the full shortlist:

Arcade Fire
Burial
Feist
Justice
LCD Soundsystem
M.I.A.
Spoon
Stars
Wilco
Working for a Nuclear Free City

*Edited to add: "Feist was chosen by a panel of five Listmakers: recording artists Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) and Ronnie Vannucci (the Killers), journalist Rev. Moose (CMJ), radio DJ Chris Douridas (KCRW) and the hosts of Hunnypot Internet Radio."

That lineup of judges goes a long way to explain the odd pick.
