EXHIBIT B
Brand Blockage @ SXSW: DirecTV To Blame?

Exhibit A defies logic. I refuse to believe Daryl Hall was ashamed of playing a Yamaha Motif ES8 in the Austin Convention Center. Tons of artists play the Motif. The last time I saw Prince he was on a Motif; hell, yours truly plays a Motif8 not that it means anything, but back to topic: I refuse to believe Daryl Hall felt compelled to cover the brand of his own damned keyboard, and we can clearly ascertain he proudly plays a Taylor guitar, thanks to Exhibit B. Ergo, I have no choice but to point the finger at the probable culprit and digital broadcaster of the mini-concert: DirecTV. I could be wrong, but if I’m right it’s an incredibly cheap shot. Yamaha wouldn’t play ball, or did you forget to ask them? You didn’t affix duct tape to the guitars, now, did you.

Is this something to be concerned about?
Maybe Mr. Hall doesn’t like to be a corporate sponsor unless he gets paid to do so.
Lots of artist do it. Cover with tape that is.

if he plays it but doesnt want to be a sponsor, don’t play it, simple. way too many choices flooding the market not to embrace one sans shame if you are a major artist collecting royalty checks. seems pretty silly. i am of the camp that direcTV did this, but I suppose I could be wrong. So #1, if Hall did it as you suggest, power to him, I say let him do whatever makes his yacht rocking highness happy (and yes, I’m a yamaha fan. biased)

Count me in the Yamaha camp. I’ve got an RGX320FZ guitar and it may be the best $200 I’ve ever spent on music equipment. Who’d have thought ten years ago that you could get an Indonesian-made guitar that’s nicer–and certainly more thoughtfully designed–than most USA-made Gibsons?
