M. Ward is the dude.
But man, what kind of bass was that chick playing? It looked awesome.
That’s a Kramer bass. Yeah, it’s a good looking one. Did anyone else think the show was a huge yawner–apart from a couple cool moments and the great opening set from Lavender Diamond?
Honestly, I was pretty disappointed–especially with her stage presence. She’s an actress! Isn’t that what you do?? Also, the songs don’t really complement her incredible voice (or M. Ward’s) talent either. She should be singing blues/jazz standards or cover reinventions like she did at the end with “I Cast a Spell on You”.
This was the prettiest show I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to my fair share of Belle and Sebastian / Air / Devendra Banhart shows.
I think it was an awkward venue – thus leading to weird bad dead silences between songs, or worse yet, ridiculous stage banter with the girl from Lavender Diamond. I believe she gave us the assignment of going out to smell some flowers or some shit like that?
@Pete: Her bass is an Aria Pro II
@Matt: When someone first told me that she was putting out an album, I thought about the scene in Elf where she’s singing in the shower (umm, because I can). Good thing she sings a lot better in person. Maybe she’ll take your suggestion on her second album.
@Cherru: The banter was all Becky Stark, I don’t think the venue can be blamed for her uniqueness. She’s said things like that at every show that I’ve seen.
