Fellow boozehounds and fans of lowriders, rejoice. Every year, the Little Tokyo Service Center throws a big fundraising party featuring an inordinate number of sakes for the imbibing and foodstuffs for the eating, all within the confines of a decidedly non-Asian-centric museum of note. Case in point: Last year’s gala featured Iron Chef Morimoto and Star Wars memorabilia at the Expo Center downtown. The year before that, the group invaded the Museum of Neon Art. This year’s event, entitled La Vida Sake, will take place May 22 (Thursday) at the Petersen Automotive Museum on Wilshire. More specifically it will take place during the lowrider exhibit, and while we typically take our lowriders with tequila, we’re exuberant for a valid excuse to collectively shift gears to sake for the evening. Plus, we have no choice but to applaud the LTSC for managing to neatly encapsulate the essential ingredients and flavors comprising Los Angeles, our fair city, within this one event: fund raising, alcohol, small portions, numerous cars and Wilshire Boulevard will all be simmered in a melting pot of cultural influences with serious Latino and Asian leanings. Voila!
The LTSC’s annual sake-infused fundraiser is hands down one of my favorite events – and as such one of my favorite giveaways – of the year, every year: the event is by no means cheap, but it’s a great party for the price and it invariably sells out. (On a personal note, my favorite part of the festivities might be that special moment when, after having partaken of one sake too many, I suddenly and without warning commence bidding on a vast array of gift baskets and vouchers located in the silent auction. The food and sake were delicious last year, and it was cool to cruise the Star Wars exhibit. The samplings by the various chef stations were delicious, the sake and beer tastings yummy, esp. if you’re an expert sake drinker. The ONLY one thing that bugged me was how crowded it was, but that may have been because of the way some of the tasting stations were laid out. I plan on checking it out again this year, if not just to stand out in front and say, “Woah, Notorious was shot here!”
Glad you came to our event last year! One of the biggest concerns we had about last year was the overcrowding and bottleneck all over the venue. This year, we’ve alleviated that by finding such a great venue at the Petersen.
It’s a large space filled with different exhibits and the sake and food stations are spread out, so we aren’t anticipating anything like what happened last year! Also, in addition to the exhibits, we have the outdoor rooftop patio with even more sake and food stations plus a lounge furniture and a DJ!

I would love to see low ride classics as well as modern ones.
This would be my first low ride event that I attend if I win the tickets.
