It wasn't Soupy Sales, but the very funny comedian that played Geraldine in one of his skits many years ago. Unfortunately my wife and I have each developed a case of CRS and don't recall his name.

I lived in L.A. from 1970-1990. Before we moved back to Nebraska in 1990 we went to see Eric Burdon at the Palomino Club on Lankershim. My wife, and at that time 10 year old daughter and I arrived about five minutes before the band started. A complete stranger saw us gawking around for a place to sit and offered us seats at his table within 10 feet of the stage. We were amazed when Eric announced that the guitarist was going to be Robby Krieger. One of the most memorable nights of my life as a long time Doors fan. I have been to numerous great shows during the 20 years in L.A. but this was the best one of all!!! Soupy Sales was in attendance and got the spotlight but we had better seats. lol. Well we did. I have bootlegged copies of some of the unreleased live Doors garage and concert recordings given to me by a surfer kid nicknamed Winch. Winch had the personalized license plate and a surfboard sticking out the back of his ride. We worked together for a short period in early 90 at Jeffrey Alans and he said he got the material from his Dad. Kid was cool. In 1987 one of the L. A. radio stations played about six hours of good Doors stuff including some unreleased that has since been released years before the material was released. There are comments on the recordings from Jeff Silverman and Digby Diehl whom I worked with at the Herald Examiner before it closed 11/01/89, sending us back to the boonies as soon as the 5th grader going to concerts completed school in June of 1990. Probably the only now 29 year old that can say she saw Robbie play live. Probably the only now 29 year old that can say she saw Iron Butterfly live at the John Anson Ford Theater also. This is a great interview. I'm sure glad I googled Barney's tonight and found this awesome material.

I love these guys, met them in Chicago a month ago at their show, and then again at the airport. They are the most down to earth guys, and you really brought it out of them. Thanks for sharing that fantastic interview!

Outstanding interview. I haven't enjoyed a piece of music journalism this much in a long time. And I don't even love the Doors.

Regarding "Get Out My Life," I'm guessing that they were familiar with the same version as I am, by Joe Williams with the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Orchestra. I just googled it, and it came out in '66, which would be about right, no?
