Superb as this looks and no doubt tastes, it’s a sad state of affairs when a tenner has become an acceptable threshold for a decent sandwich in this town. Sprinkle in some “gourmet” buzz words on the menu–DIJON mustard! AIOLI! (not to be confused with MAYO), AGED cheddar! (all cheddar is “aged” to some degree) and suddenly it feels like we’re getting a bargain for a mere Hamilton. Factor in tax, tip and a drink and your closer to a Jackson. Our more famous delis around town in particular are culpable for having ballooned the retail market for sandwiches. Remind me at some point to report on Art’s Deli’s $17 reuben.
In their (mendocino’s) case, I’m gonna let them charge it. More than worth it, you have to see this operation and its output.
