Los Angeles – The first edition of (H)ITWEEK L.A, a celebration of Made in Italy: Music, Art, Poetry, Literature and Cinema, will be featured in a series of events throughout Los Angeles from October 13 through October 18. Leading Italian acts will appear at the Music Box (Henry Fonda Theatre) on October 16 and October 17 culminating on October 18 with a performance by the Italian art-rock legend Franco Battiato at the Broad Stage. The three shows are presented by 89.9 KCRW.
The six day Festival opens with an exhibition of paintings by Franco Battiato on October 13 at the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Westwood and will be followed by a DJ sets at the Purple Lounge at the Standard Hotel with Daniele Luppi and John Type. Piano virtuoso, Giovanni Allevi will give a concert at the Italian Cultural Institute on October 14. Across town at USC, Musikanten, directed by Franco Battiato will screen in that same afternoon. Following the screening, eclectic music project Calibro 35, the brainchild of four musicians passionate about 70’s cult Italian Cop Movies and their soundtracks, will perform live before screening original Polizziotteschi films at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. On October 15 there will be a wine tasting and a documentary screening at the Italian Cultural Institute of Allegro Moderato directed by Patrizia Santangeli and Raffaella Milazzo. The film is a documentary about Esagramma, the Symphony Orchestra founded by a group of disabled musicians.
A line-up of the finest Italian music acts perform in LA for (H)ITWEEK with the top of the charts rock band, Negrita who took their name from the Song Hey! Negrita by the Rolling Stones; classically trained Rock Jazz pianist Giovanni Allevi; Linea 77, currently recording in Los Angeles, and named one of the most important crossover bands in Europe; Le Vibrazioni, renowned Italian rockers; and Afterhours, the Milan-based underground Indie band that played at SXSW in Austin and recently completed a US tour. Other featured artists include neo-soul, jazz, funk and world music artist, Amana and Marco Fabi, Indie singer-songwriter, a constant on the Rome club circuit. Also returning to the US after playing SXSW this year, is the Italian quintet rock noir band Belladonna. Singer-songwriter, Davide Combusti, a.k.a. The Niro, touted as one of Italy’s most promising exports, will perform opening night at the Music Box.
HITWEEK L.A. is promoted by Francesco Del Maro of Mela, Inc. and Music Experience Roma S.r.l. and is presented under the Auspices of the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles, and supported by the Italian Cultural Institute, the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce West and the Italian Trade Commission.
