Muse Headed to Salt Lake City, April 5, 2010–Inching Closer to Coachella Festival Appearance?
Consequence of Sound had their Coachella 2010 appearance “confirmed” almost a month ago, but breaking news of a date in Salt Lake City on April 5, 2010 just about makes it inevitable. Can’t see the guys packing up and going home without a quick stop in the desert ten days after that SLC date.
The question is can Muse realistically headline a night themselves, or will they just play a late slot on the main stage before some other headliner?

Nervous fans of Steel Panther can rest easy: House of Blues Sunset Strip will take over hosting their weekly residency from the shuttered Key Club. It’s set to run Monday nights starting 12/14.
The press release announcing the news of the move is actually more of a full bio of Steel Panther and one of the funnier, better written ones at that, even if its authenticity is a bit, uh, dubious.

Los Angeles #2 on TomTom’s 20 Most Traffic Congested Cities

Dubious silver medal award comes via Jalopnik:
TomTom collected data from its Tele Atlas business system GPS data to determine what streets were “congested.” In order to qualify a driver has to travel at only 70% or less than the posted speed limits. And while cities like Los Angeles and New York make the top five, it’s actually Seattle, Washington at the top of the pile with 43% of the roads considered congested.

Get Well, Rivers & Co.

PHOTO by Sung. Weezer fans from their 2008 Forum show.
You never want to hear the words “tour bus crash” in any context, as the phrase inevitably conjures the worst. The official Weezer blog was on the scene. Reading this detailed account, it’s clear all aboard were extremely lucky. Forget about rocking for now and just take your time getting well.

Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside Brings You the Dinner Detective Murder Mystery
When you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll. And the Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside hotel is on a roll. Following up their new award as #1 Best Wedding Venue in Los Angeles, Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside has secured the Los Angeles residency of The Dinner Detective.
From the press release (as always, emboldened emphasis on the most salient tidbits ours):
The Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside hotel has partnered with The Dinner Detective to provide entertainment at the Culver City hotel on weekends. The hotel near Santa Monica even retrofitted its Westwood Room with upscale lighting and artwork to better accommodate the show.
The Dinner Detective is an award-winning interactive comedic murder mystery dinner show, set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows, here you will find no costumes, no recited dialogue, no song and dance. Performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving guests to wonder who is part of the show and who is not. In many instances, guests are seated with performers and don’t even realize it until the performers die! Detectives proceed to interrogate everyone and find clues as more people die. At the end of the night, a prize is awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime.

Jason Bentley Completes First Year as KCRW Music Director/MBE Host: How’s He Doing?
By Ryan - Monday December 07th 2009 |
How time flies. Just last week Jason Bentley, KCRW (89.9 FM Santa Monica; 89.3 KCRI Indio/Palm Springs; 89.1 KCRU in Oxnard/Ventura, and 88.1 KCRY in the Antelope Valley) Music Director and host of the popular post-NPR program Morning Becomes Eclectic, completed his first full year in his new role. I spoke with Jason at a coffee shop last year in Venice, right before the torch was passed, and admittedly no small part of me is left wondering just what in the hell I personally have completed in those 365 days, by comparison. He’s still got nine years left to champion Nic Harcout’s run. Think he’ll be around that long? He’ll have a new boss for year two; Ruth Seymour is leaving at the end of February. Here’s his top 10 album list for 2008 (before helming the entire station) and here’s his list for 2009 (with applicable Music Director title). And though I’ve personally listened to terrestrial radio far fewer hours this year than any other year in history, all told I think he’s doing a pretty bang-up job. But enough about me – what are your thoughts?

Humanitarian Bowl Wants the Bruins
By Victor - Monday December 07th 2009 |
Apparently, the Humanitarian Bowl wants UCLA football . First off, did anyone know this was an actual bowl game? Remember that Seinfeld when George made up that fake charity and called it “The Human Fund”? The name kind of conjures that a bit. Further investigation finds the full name is the Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl. From Roady’s website:
Roady’s Truck Stops is the nation’s largest chain of truck stops, catering to the professional driver and traveling motorist in 45 states with 400+ retail locations.
So, if offered it, do they take the bid or stay home? If the Bruins accept and take the game, but then lose the damn Humanitarian Bowl to a presumably weak opponent–remember the Silicon Valley Classic loss to Fresno State in ’03–that would be a truly lousy ending to a mediocre season. Sometimes you should just stay home and cut your losses. Literally.
