Newcastle Brown Ale DraughtKeg Debuts in LA

FTC Compliance Disclosure: Some Newcastle rep wanted to give us free beer to drink during the Superbowl. In turn we decided to write this post about the free beer, which came in wee Newcastle kegs. They even sent a couple of wee Newcastle pub towels our way. Why not enjoy a pub-style pint of America’s No.1 imported ale fresh off the tap of a Newcastle DraughtKeg today. The five-liter mini-keg serves up to 10 pints of Newcastle Brown Ale, offering a perfect pour and incredible smoothness.

It’s sleek, portable, recyclable and perfect for any Super Bowl party but you can only find it in select cities including Los Angeles. Check it out at local grocery stores like Albertson’s for $22.99. Below, verbatim txtscript from the inboxes of your very own Losanjealous Editorial staff, pre-Superbowl…

Any plans? Any desire to get together?
We have 20 pints of Newcastle Brown to plow through among other things, lest you forget. Recommend chill at least 10 hours prior to serving.

I’m watching at my place and you guys are more than welcome to join.
Newcastle will be a must and it is definitely going to chill at least 10 hours prior to serving.

That’s what I like to hear. I’m there.
Victor, no interest in the game or you have plans in Vegas during that time?

What makes you think I am back from Vegas yet..? I won big and have been posting from my comped suite at Bellagio all week. Oddly enough they refuse to comp the wi-fi.

ok let’s talk newcastle logistics. can you send a livery from the strip to arrive at least 10 hours before game time?

That shit needs to chill at least 10 hours before tapping. So if any beers are tapped during pregame, you have to add that time in to the total chill time in advance. Both draughtkegs; all 20 pints. All 20, at least 10 hours.

I think if you chill 2 kegs simultaneously, that’s like 15 hours minimum chilltime. It’s like microwaving 2 Hot Pockets at the same time – goes from 2 minutes to 3 minutes.

I can bring them chilled or I can hand em off after work this week if you want to handle the chilling duties.

From what I understand they need to be chilled AT MINIMUM 10 hours, each. Before subscribing to the 15-hour half life theorem, I think we need to take into account the power of the chilling instrument in question. E.g, if your fridge is more powerful than Ron’s, and then you drive to Ron’s, but you have previously chilled the DraughtKegs for 25+ hours, we should in theory be in the clear based on the rate of decay. However, if you chill the DraughtKegs™ for a minimum 10 hours total, and then drive to Ron’s, and your fridge is not particularly powerful, we are in a world of shit. Does this make sense? I leave it to the two of you to determine when and where these DraughtKegs are transferred; you know the pre-imbibing chill stipulations tenfold but I can pass along Kat’s number if you have additional questions.

If you’re heading out of town this weekend can you drop them off on the way over? Otherwise I can pick them up sometime Friday or Saturday.
Seriously we can’t fuck up the chilling process. This is not Nam.

It’s OK, you can just come out and say it: you don’t trust me to handle the chilling process.

I am probably going to make a run out of town but will leave them chilling. I’ll be back here in time to grab them and bring em over.

Please ping us both when you begin chilling the DraughtKegs, as I will want to call Kat to confirm we are allowing ourselves enough chilleeway, prior to tapping the all-new, LA market Newcastle DraughtKets for that big game, Sunday.

How’s the keg look?

When I got back from victor’s the keg was room temperature. Chilling properly now.

When I show up Sunday the first DraughtKeg is in this bathtub (pictured, top), and Ron is blathering something about late-hour complications. Whatever; DF and I enjoyed the beer.
