dublab Celebrates Trish Keenan, shares Live Broadcast Recording from 2000

Trishdublab kindly passes along a download of a great soundboard recording of the live set by Broadcast at the El Rey back in 2000, opening for Godspeed You! Black Emperor, a show I remember fondly.

It was very upsetting to read news about the passing of Trish Keenan–one of my personal favorites–at just 42 years-old last week. It’s small consolation, but at least we have her inspired art on record for posterity. I dug out all their releases last weekend and renewed my awe at the spectrum of sound Broadcast managed to capture. Every song they committed to tape feels as if it absolutely needed to exist. 2003’s Ha Ha Sound, in particular, leapt out at me anew, this time around. Put that one on good, loud speakers today and just sit back and wow. 2006’s The Future Crayon release also serves up new rewards upon a fresh relistening. Most bands would be lucky to put out a proper album as good as this compilation of b-sides and e.p tracks. Thanks to dublab for the nice live recording to further remember her by.
