Mathew Dear aka Audion @ King King this Friday
By D - Thursday February 22nd 2007 |
I’ve been out-of-pocket after too many post Dub Club street-meat excursions….but I’m finally back making sure our loyal readers out there are not only well humored by our witty horseplay but informed on some of the best all-nightly happenings. Artists continually try to hide behind pseudonyms and alter egos but rest assured that we here at ‘losanjealous’ are on the job…abet part-time… Detroit inspired producer Mathew Dear (aka. Audion) is state-side at King King this Friday night. I could go on and on using words like innovator, luminary and shit like that. Just make sure you check it. I’ve never gotten the chance to give props to LA techno ultra stalwarts Droidbehaviour either but this Saturday night they present Prototype 909 for some hardcore old-school synth madness Believe it.. This weekend is going to be brilliant and finish it off by curling up and watching the Oscars on Sunday…checking into rehab with Britney on Monday…o.no.u.didn’t!

Rub-N-Tug @ Sarcastic/aNYthing this Saturday
By D - Friday November 10th 2006 |

A Guy/Cult Member Called ‘Tony Watson’ hooked me up with the ‘Rub-N-Tug’ mix @ PS1 mix…which peaked my interest a while back. I spent days i.d’n tracks on that one…all the while bumpin their Fabric mix. I might have missed out on the last Rub-N-Tug event but this Saturday I’m ready! These guys are rocking New York City and are poised to do the same. Check the quote:

D Guarantee: Claude VonStroke @ SexyModr this Saturday
By D - Wednesday October 25th 2006 |
Claude VonStroke is offering up tricks and treats for what promises to be a fanastic Saturday night at SexyModr. With ‘Tricky sound effects, nasty bass, inspiring melodies, and up front originals’ make Claude VonStroke ‘a completely original experience that is not to be missed’. 2005′s highly original ‘Deep Throat’ vaulted the Dirty Bird label to a the top of German, Belgian, and Italian charts. 2006 is proving to be no different. His latest sick 12” includes ‘Whistler’ and ‘Who’s afraid of Detroit?’…is sure to be a repeat performance…I’m afraid of what Claude VonStroke is going to drop on us this weekend. Panorama Bar in Berlin is what ‘Kentucky is to Chickens’ for electronic music. Catching the ‘bird’ – Claude VonStroke before his trip to this infanous club should be something to remember.

Swap Meet: Halloween MP3 Social this Saturday
By D - Monday October 23rd 2006 |
Dressing up like a pirate is way too obvious for this MP3 swap. I would suggest getting a whole bunch of friends dressed up like ‘The Strike Team’ from the Shield and storm the joint like you’re Vic Mackey. That would be brilliant…DON’T BREAK CHARACTER…arrest everyone…maybe fake a murder. It’s Halloween…thereby completely legit to dress like a ‘ho’ and(or) scare the shit out of people. The bonus here is you get to share music with all your new friends, sing Karaoke, and get bombed – in reverse order.

This is your brain on ‘Magda’ live – Plus bonus album review of ‘She’s a Dancing Machine’
By D - Sunday October 22nd 2006 |
This is your brain on…’Magda’… For those of us who witnessed Magda’s crate…well ok her Laptop has gig(gle)’s worth of choice bangers that ruined the lot of us. I particularly loved the spontaneously rich sound selection. Complexities that trigger the imagination… A sonar ping’ed relentlessly by the end to help me find my way back…to myself. You know you’re at a good party in L.A. when you recognize 20% are DJ’s & Producers…all being rocked off their asses. Two technically enduced trainwrecks but still a monster of a inspirational night.

D Guarantee: Peter Kruder presents VOOMVOOM @ King King – Plus: Album reviews for ‘Peng Peng’ and Dorfmeister’s ‘Grand Slam’
By D - Tuesday October 17th 2006 |
Hey what do you know… another mucho anticipated show at King King this Friday? This week we have Voom Voom – Peter Kruder of ‘Kruder & Dorfmeister’ alongside Christian Prommer & Roland Appel of ‘Fauna and Flash’. Now imagine trying to say that in German… This Austrian/German combo’s album and live incarnation are proof positive that “dance music hasn’t hit a creative cul-de-sac…brimming with ideas, joy, warmth and an incredible smileâ€. ‘Voom Voom’s album Peng Peng’ is absolutely contagious and stands to be one of this year’s top of the table releases. I can vouch that the album demands not only ‘dancefloor’ attention but has sweet and sexy grooves for the bedroom. Come to think of it this sounds a lot like Peanut butter and Chocolate doesn’t it? Two great things coming together. Damn, the floor is going to be movin. Ladies, get out your clean sheets and candles because Friday night we are ALL going to be getting lucky!

D Guarantee: Mathew Jonson @ King King
By D - Friday October 13th 2006 |
First, let’s make sure everyone in LALALand knows that King King this Friday night is going to go off!!! How am I going to prove to ya’ll that this is going to happen? Hmmm, well the first hint is Mathew Jonson is in town for his only West Coast gig. My fellow Canadian bredren has releases on M_nus, Kompakt, Crosstown Rebels, etc. He’s the founder of his own label ‘Wagonrepair’ which has a number of genre defining plates under their belt. Enough ‘name dropping’… Step 1 – Check out this snippet of Mathew Jonson at the World Music Conference where he headlined the Fusion party. It’s ok…you can go back and check it out again. Whut? Yes, he is that good. Analog gear, 32 channel mixing board, and who knows what else he’s got up his sleeve… It’s just getting better and better…

Review: Henrik Schwarz/Âme/Dixon – Where We At EP
By D - Tuesday October 10th 2006 |
I felt compelled to share the lyrics primarily to ‘Where We At – Version 1’ but I do recommend checking out the ‘Innervisions – Sonar Kollektiv’ album by the same title. ‘Where we at’ has beautifully poetic deep tech house synth that accompanies a jilting narrative originally recorded by Derrick Carter. Kudos to Henrik Schwarz, Dixon, ÂME and Derrick Carter for this stirring release…

D Guarantee: SexyModr @ 310.217.7549.aka.bespoke.downtown.LA.destination.
By D - Thursday October 05th 2006 |
The new SexyModr space sounds like it’s going to hit all the right buttons for me – a 2200 sf brick building, 20ft ceilings, concrete floors and my magic word…5am close!!! I think I need to light a cigarette… SexyModr music will be an evolving barrage of ‘Italia disco, cheeky disco, techno, retro techy electro deep minimal robo funky bangbang discopunk house’. Hallelujah!!!
The Solid Funk/Gravy/SexyModr crew’s previous Get Physical event with Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y. was a great time including a hilarious D.J. strip tease, noise violations, a visit from L.A.’s finest…AND SWEEEEET BERLIN-esque BEATS!!! Let’s all break in their new location this Saturday with some positive energy and keep it thumping till the break of dawn.
This Saturday’s DJ’s are: Der Kontraktor, Gomes, Fusion, & MotorBickle

D Guarantee: John Tejada@Compression
By D - Thursday September 28th 2006 |
Compression at King King this week features John Tejada who must be ready to drop-the-needle on the L.A. techno scene. A forthcoming album titled “Cleaning Sounds Is A Filthy Business†and an upcoming 10 year anniversary for his own Palette Recordings label should lay the groundwork for a great Friday night.
I get the sense that John Tejada should actually be the guy wearing the ‘I’m Big in Europe’ T-shirt around L.A. It’s ridiculous – the krauts especially (myself included) adore this guy. His tracks appear in most of my (woopy!) yearly top tens, he’s worked with DIVINE STYLER (this blows my mind as he is surely one of my most fabled artists) and hell I’m picking this show at King King over going to see Tiga, whom I used to see weekly in Montreal waaaay back in the day… I’m very intrigued to hear Tejada on his home turf during this landmark period. With initial reviews of “Cleaning Sounds…†pointing to his “most mature and complete work to dateâ€, my curiosity for this techno composers live incarnation is…how can you say… ready for the ‘Filthy F#@$’n Business’!!! I’ll drop-a-review of the album shortly.
