Artists continually try to hide behind pseudonyms and alter egos but rest assured that we here at ‘losanjealous’ are on the job…abet part-time… Detroit inspired producer Mathew Dear (aka. Audion) is state-side at King King this Friday night. I could go on and on using words like innovator, luminary and shit like that. Just make sure you check it. I’ve never gotten the chance to give props to LA techno ultra stalwarts Droidbehaviour either but this Saturday night they present Prototype 909 for some hardcore old-school synth madness Believe it.. This weekend is going to be brilliant and finish it off by curling up and watching the Oscars on Sunday…checking into rehab with Britney on Monday…o.no.u.didn’t!

I spent days i.d’n tracks on that one…all the while bumpin their Fabric mix. I might have missed out on the last Rub-N-Tug event but this Saturday I’m ready! These guys are rocking New York City and are poised to do the same. Check the quote:

“Club life has died here, but in return heads have found their place in dive bars and lofts. In these joints it’s even more lawless than before which is, of course, pleasant. It suits us and in turn we’ve developed a sound that suits it.” The sound in question is a call to dancefloor arms.
- Rub-N-Tug

The ‘D’ Guarantees a Happy Ending with this Rub-N-Tug!!!

Dressing up like a pirate is way too obvious for this MP3 swap. I would suggest getting a whole bunch of friends dressed up like ‘The Strike Team’ from the Shield and storm the joint like you’re Vic Mackey. That would be brilliant…DON’T BREAK CHARACTER…arrest everyone…maybe fake a murder. It’s Halloween…thereby completely legit to dress like a ‘ho’ and(or) scare the shit out of people. The bonus here is you get to share music with all your new friends, sing Karaoke, and get bombed – in reverse order.

You all have a solid week to prep for this fantastic Superbunker Project. I personally wanted to do my Eastern European accented rendition of ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica but it appears not to be on the list… For all you creative types this is a BYO Pumpkin party. I’ll bring…party favors.

Bring:
- Your singin’ voice & dancin’ shoes
- a flash drive / CD / MP3 player / laptop containing your favorite files
- PUMPKIN!
- Dr1NkZ (or dollars of kindness)
- An inner sense of joy in the face of our eroding cultural freedoms

I particularly loved the spontaneously rich sound selection. Complexities that trigger the imagination… A sonar ping’ed relentlessly by the end to help me find my way back…to myself. You know you’re at a good party in L.A. when you recognize 20% are DJ’s & Producers…all being rocked off their asses. Two technically enduced trainwrecks but still a monster of a inspirational night.

And this is your brain on ‘Adam Beyer’… His set reminded me of a classic 8 hour set back at the Playground in Montreal by Sven Vath. Obviously Techno is in very ‘Beyery’ good hands… I look forward to seeing Adam in a setting that allows the longer format…and can someone turn down the fuckin lights next time!!! (keep going for review)

Album Review: ‘She’s a Dancing Machine’ brings the rich dubby fat ‘minimal’ soundscape to her fans. With some 70 tracks specially blended it’s quite the adventure in electronic sound innovation. Madga’s playfulness and spontaneity seems to always bleed on the edge of a ‘live’ sound. In her own words:

“There is a familiar feeling in music today which I felt during my introduction to electronic music. Through multiple layers of tracks, edits, loops, and effects, this mix compilation is constructed to reflect these old and new sounds and the similarities between them, which make this mix special and personal to me.” – Magda

This week we have Voom Voom – Peter Kruder of ‘Kruder & Dorfmeister’ alongside Christian Prommer & Roland Appel of ‘Fauna and Flash’. Now imagine trying to say that in German… This Austrian/German combo’s album and live incarnation are proof positive that “dance music hasn’t hit a creative cul-de-sac…brimming with ideas, joy, warmth and an incredible smile”. ‘Voom Voom’s album Peng Peng’ is absolutely contagious and stands to be one of this year’s top of the table releases. I can vouch that the album demands not only ‘dancefloor’ attention but has sweet and sexy grooves for the bedroom. Come to think of it this sounds a lot like Peanut butter and Chocolate doesn’t it? Two great things coming together. Damn, the floor is going to be movin. Ladies, get out your clean sheets and candles because Friday night we are ALL going to be getting lucky!

Ok. I know what you’re saying to yourself…slow down there tiger you have to last longer than your personal best of 2 minutes if you want to finish this article. Let the blood flow back to your little brain and focus! Alright, ‘Peng Peng’ is warmed by an obvious friendship between its collaborators. Rich production and a special blend of ‘Detroit techno, deep house, fractured funk, soothing ambient, intelligent dance music, hedonistic house… all can be found, locked deep in Peng Peng’s grooves’. A solid album with this type of deep intelligence makes it hard to call out specifics, but ‘All I Need’ has an orchestric transition to textured electronic techno sequence that completely blows my mind the harder I listen. ‘Best Friend’ has soft luscious keys floating over hand claps and a classic disco groove. My bet is we will all be hugging each other for this one…leave the L.A. attitude at home this Friday.

Note: Fauna and Flash are also going to be rocking the Getty for a ’sun-set’…
Time: 6:00–9:00 p.m.
Location: Getty Center, Museum Courtyard
Admission: Free; no reservations required

So it seemed pretty clear that Voom Voom’s album ‘Peng Peng’ might be the most amazing piece of deep electronic house music you’re going to hear for…well until the next album review by yours truly is probably a little fairer. But now I’m really going to complicate shit with the otherside of the equation…Dorfmeister. K&D’s label ‘G-stone’ has just released ‘Richard Dorfmeister vs. Madrid De Los Austrias – Grand Slam’. TIP! Summer jam’s abound with Latin grooves and fat rauncy baselines flying at you from all angles. Reworked classics, new funky and tight production, remixes of zero 7 and Groove Armada… Just thank me later. I have to rest up for this weekend.
How am I going to prove to ya’ll that this is going to happen? Hmmm, well the first hint is Mathew Jonson is in town for his only West Coast gig. My fellow Canadian bredren has releases on M_nus, Kompakt, Crosstown Rebels, etc. He’s the founder of his own label ‘Wagonrepair’ which has a number of genre defining plates under their belt. Enough ‘name dropping’… Step 1 – Check out this snippet of Mathew Jonson at the World Music Conference where he headlined the Fusion party. It’s ok…you can go back and check it out again. Whut? Yes, he is that good. Analog gear, 32 channel mixing board, and who knows what else he’s got up his sleeve… It’s just getting better and better…

As I stop, and take the time
To inventory, the inside of my mind
I realize, it’s not as full as it used to be.
With images of justice, or desires of liberty
The world has changed, or is it me that’s new?
A different set of morale’s from a different set of clues
So still I wonder, is this all there is to life?
The ever changing cycles, in a world that’s damp and ripe
There must more, yah my heart I hold to this
I’ve enjoyed love and I’ve seen the peace and bliss
But as you know, all things must end, except the need for faith
And the spirit that’s within to keep you strong

Move forward with power, program yourself to feel
With depth enough to know what’s up and heart to sense the real

Where you at?

As I stop, for the frame we set aside
Below the baseline a secret place awaits for us to hide.
To pass the time as the war goes on-and-on.
A post-apocalyptic sunset, a post-apocalyptic dawn
Of just a though of the world we want possessed
A place that wasn’t honest was just a house with an address.
Of existence, wrought with fear and mistrust, a life inside a box
No life inside of us.
Find you soul, use your inner voice,
The road less traveled, is now the path of choice.
Realize, with time comes change
New attitudes, new values, priorities rearranged.

Move forward with power, program yourself to feel
With depth enough to know what’s up and heart to sense the real

Where you at?

Compression at King King this week features John Tejada who must be ready to drop-the-needle on the L.A. techno scene. A forthcoming album titled “Cleaning Sounds Is A Filthy Business” and an upcoming 10 year anniversary for his own Palette Recordings label should lay the groundwork for a great Friday night.

I get the sense that John Tejada should actually be the guy wearing the ‘I’m Big in Europe’ T-shirt around L.A. It’s ridiculous – the krauts especially (myself included) adore this guy. His tracks appear in most of my (woopy!) yearly top tens, he’s worked with DIVINE STYLER (this blows my mind as he is surely one of my most fabled artists) and hell I’m picking this show at King King over going to see Tiga, whom I used to see weekly in Montreal waaaay back in the day… I’m very intrigued to hear Tejada on his home turf during this landmark period. With initial reviews of “Cleaning Sounds…” pointing to his “most mature and complete work to date”, my curiosity for this techno composers live incarnation is…how can you say… ready for the ‘Filthy F#@$’n Business’!!! I’ll drop-a-review of the album shortly.
