Fluids: A Happening by Allan Kaprow
By - Wednesday April 30th 2008

Meanwhile, Back in L.A….

While everyone in the free world was at Coachella this weekend, I stayed in L.A. and enjoyed the fabulous weather (HOT! It was really hot here, people). Some friends and I decided to cool down on Saturday by stopping by one of the Fluids: A Happening by Allan Kaprow gigantic ice igloo art installations at the Rios Clementi Hale Studios on Larchmont. Given the fact that it was 122 degrees, hanging out with some gigantic ice blocks sounded pretty great.

LUCHA VA VOOM – FEBRUARY 12TH, 2008 AT THE MAYAN THEATRE – “LOVE IS IN THE AIR”

MEXICAN MASKED WRESTLING, SAUCY STRIPTEASE AND KATO KAELIN! WTF?
Pam’s liver sponsored by El Jimador Tequila.

Lucha VaVoom Feb 2008!

Tuesday night was the first of three Lucha Va Voom shows at the Mayan Theatre downtown. These are the valentine-themed “Love is in the Air” performances, but I think there were more tequila fumes in the air than love. I have been to several Lucha Va Voom shows; this was not my favorite. [That's the hangover talking. -ed] Although, a so-so Lucha Va Voom show is still 158% better than “Law and Order SVU” reruns on my couch. I definitely recommend checking out the final night Thursday.

7.26p
We arrived early and got a table, which is key if you’re buying the $30 tickets. The show started off flat with two burlesque dancers, the Queen of Hearts and the Queen of Clubs. It barely roused (or aroused) anyone in the normally raucous crowd.

All Kinds of Awesomeness

The term “awesome” has become rather banal these days. It’s used for things such as seeing Charo in line in front of you at Whole Foods or your new jeans or that Thai restaurant on La Brea. But last night, I saw something that was truly awesome.

In Praise Of Lucha VaVoom

Lucha VaVoom! So, what are you doing tonight? Well my friend, you need to cancel it. You need to cancel it and head down to the Mayan Theater on Hill Street to see if the box office still has a few tickets left for tonight or tomorrow night’s LUCHA VA VOOM. You already missed the opening show last night, with the historic birth of the MINI CHICKEN. But there’s still time to see the Mini Chicken wrestle Los Coyotes and to see asstastic burlesque dancers like MICHELLE L’AMOUR.
