Los Angeles, Manwhore is your best rock band.
Recommended Show of the Week: Arctic Monkeys @ Spaceland. Arctic Monkeys topped the UK singles charts with their debut track, I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, due in large part to a grassroots internet buzz. This is an impressive feat considering that the Beatle’s debut single, Love Me Do, only made it to #17 and that the Arctic Monkeys spend their Winters bathing in the mountain hot springs of Nagano, Japan. Catch the hype Friday night at Spaceland.
Daniel Lanois will be opening Thursday’s night of music at Spaceland for a meager $8.
If you might imagine these reconfigurable groups as an indie rock Voltron of locking parts, Broken Social Scene would be the black lion, the torso, the most substantial component of the lot.
Recommended Show of the Week: Broken Social Scene, Feist @ Henry Fonda. Do you know why every Canadian indie rock band has at least six members? It’s because they all play each other in an intramural hockey league. BSS, Arcade Fire, New Pornographers, Godspeed You Black Emperor–they’re all in it. Broken Social Scene are perennial favorites, due in large part to their deep bench. See them with Feist Monday or Tuesday at the Fonda.
