Recommended Show of the Week: Animal Collective @ El Rey. When a band’s sound is unconventional they’re quickly tagged with the “experimental” label. The vast majority of times the experiment alluded to is a failure often involving a horrible laboratory explosion. Not so with Animal Collective–the band had a eureka moment with last year’s album, Sung Tongs, and continue their mastery with their latest release, Feels. The Collective bring their science to the El Rey on Tuesday.
City of Industry-based retailer Hot Topic is not-so-hot these days. Perhaps the kids are alright after all.
Recommended Show of the Week: Arctic Monkeys @ Spaceland. Arctic Monkeys topped the UK singles charts with their debut track, I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, due in large part to a grassroots internet buzz. This is an impressive feat considering that the Beatle’s debut single, Love Me Do, only made it to #17 and that the Arctic Monkeys spend their Winters bathing in the mountain hot springs of Nagano, Japan. Catch the hype Friday night at Spaceland.
Daniel Lanois will be opening Thursday’s night of music at Spaceland for a meager $8.
