Quick Bite at the Lardon Food Truck
By Victor - Wednesday November 17th 2010 |
So I found myself at my usual Tuesday night hang, the Sherman Oaks Guitar Center, which I hit up to lay down some sweet licks right after hitting up The Infield for their $2 dog Tuesdays.
After I get kicked out of the G.C., I come out onto Ventura to find that the newish Lardon bacon-centric food truck is parked just down the block. Figured since I only had three dogs at The Infield, I had room try something light from Lardon. I went with the B.L.T., the eponymous “Lardon” sandwich itself.
It was adequate enough sustenance for $6. But to me, came up short on achieving that Transcendent B.L.T. Effect (T.B.L.T.E.) one can get from a perfect B.L.T. Where leavened bread, seared beast flesh, ripe vegetable and mayonnaise, representing the grains, greens, wild animals and mayonnaise of Mother Gaia, conspire in a toasty, cool, savory unified taste and texture harmony. In your mouth.

Calbi Truck Braves Drizzle to Serve the Westside
By Victor - Wednesday December 30th 2009 |
Spotted around 2pm at Wilshire/Granville. Is this truck any good? I didn’t stop (already had 3 McRibs for lunch). And I’m kinda over all trucks for a while. Plus I’m generally suspicious of anything advertising “Franchises Available”.
The ever perspicacious Janet L. from Sherman Oaks over on Yelp gives them a rave–when they include enough slaw on their items:
I then tried Calbi last Saturday ALSO at Abbot Kinney and there was NO line and the tacos were AMAZING! I loved em. I especially loved the marinade of the chicken and the generous amount of slaw they put in each taco. LOVE the extra extra spicy sauce they give along with it also. After 3 of these puppies we headed over to Flying Pig which was also pretty freakin’ amazing. (more variety and kinda gourmet-ish).
But since the review is for Calbi, I must stay on topic. I have to add that Calbi is RELIABLE which is mega points in my taco book. They tweeted they were going to be in my hood of Sherman Oaks (which I know is rare) and when I replied to see how long they were gonna be there, they actually wrote back to me. Customer Service points for that little token.
The reason for -1 star is that today when I got my tacos they didn’t seem to put as much slaw on top of the tacos and that adds so much. So – hopefully they will work on the consistency.

Sherman Oaks Beat: Carey Mulligan and Boyfriend Do Ventura Blvd.
Breaking Sherman Oaks news from People.com:
Shia LaBeouf and his Golden Globe-nominated girlfriend, Brit Carey Mulligan, have been sightseeing in Los Angeles together … an eyewitness tells us, “Shia has been taking Carey to all of his favorite spots.” Among their stops: Lunch at Mexican restaurant Baja Fresh followed by a visit to Borders. “They are a very sweet couple,” the eyewitness says. “They browsed several books and would not let go of each other’s hands.” The two left with a “make your own volcano kit” and finished their afternoon with a movie at the Arclight before strolling home in the dark.
Baja Fresh, Borders, Arclight–sounds like a perfect day out on Ventura Blvd!
