    Tuesdays in November 8-11 p.m.

Tapas Tuesday Jazz Nights at El Cid

Tapas and Drink Specials All Night

El Cid continues its Tapas Tuesday Jazz Nights in November with the Tom McNalley Trio performing live every Tuesday from 8-11 p.m. in November. Guitarist Tom McNalley brings a new trio performing new original music featuring Jarrad Lander, electric bass and Matt Baker, drums, bringing fiery blues energy to jazz imagination.

Tapas Tuesday Jazz Nights: $5.00 cover charge; no minimum; $5 tapas and sangria specials; an extensive tapas menu and full bar with exclusive artisan cocktail creations. El Cid is located at 4212 West Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake 90029. There is ample street parking and valet parking is available. For more information please visit or call 323.668.0318. El Cid is also available for Holiday parties and large groups.

Guitarist Tom McNalley has been a mainstay on the Los Angeles music scene, having worked with everyone from Nels Cline to Ornette Coleman who said of Tom “Your like the best of Pat Metheney and Blood Ulmer.” His new trio brings the blues and rock edge to the forefront on their new release “Eyes Above Water”. Influences of early John McLaughlin and John Abercrombie are still there (and of course the aforementioned Cline), but now with more Hendrix and even Tom Morello! McNalley’s extensive foray into Haitian music also show up, and with the fearless rhythm section of Matt Baker (drums) and Jarrad Lander (electric bass), expect no stone to be unturned!

Los Angeles native Bassist Jarrad Wade Lander has played with The Faceless, Symphonic Circles, Carlotta as well as many other Los Angeles based and national artists. Jarrad recently performed with electro/pop group Maximum Hedrum opening for the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s headlining tour. Drummer/ producer Matt Baker has been immersed in the Los Angeles scene since the age of 15; studied drumset performance and music theory at LAMA; and literally lives in a recording studio and working on launching his own label “Moment Music.”

El Cid, the venerable bar/restaurant/nightclub, steeped in Los Angeles history, located in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake Sunset Junction neighborhood is celebrating its 50th year as the premiere venue for Flamenco Dinner Shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. The Sunday Flamenco dinner shows offer authentic Paella specially prepared outdoors on the patio, as well as a popular spot for enjoying Brunch, Tapas on the outdoor Patio, Daily Happy Hour from 4-8 p.m., eclectic range of nightlife, and the new and exciting Honky Tonk Hacienda Thursdays from 8-11 p.m. with live music of Outlaw Country, Roots, and Americana.

We’ve heard it so often: people in this town rarely make plans or RSVP anymore. Why? Because there’s too much awesome stuff going on at any given time, that no one can commit in advance. It would appear that everyone in southern California suffers from a medical condition jeopardizing social lives across the board: FOMO. (‘Fear of Missing Out’, to the layperson.) This disease has been prominent in most Los Angeles cities for years, and has recently began impacting the safety of our beloved South Bay bubble. FOMO is estimated to be most rampant during the holiday season, especially on the biggest night of the year: New Years Eve. NYE FOMO is the worst kind there is. (It’s actually proven to be fatal in some subsections of Malibu.) The stress of choosing ONE PARTY, when there are SO MANY OPTIONS, can bring upon fits of anxiety that no normal human being can withstand.

After years of research and development, Saint Rocke possesses the only known cure for NYE FOMO. The prescription? A bitchin’ New Years Eve Show with The English Beat.(Dave Wakeling in all his glory: Hit. After hit. After hit.) High-energy live music and a super-fun dance party. Sound perfect? Wait. There’s more. The added bonus of this particular NYE show? Each ticket includes OPEN BAR. That’s one price for the whole night, Charlie. No worrying about racking up a huge tab and spending January’s rent money on booze. (Been there. Drank that.) Go ahead and grab a round for 10 of your closest friends. See a cutie at the bar? Send over a top-shelf, without doing the math in your head. You want VIP options, too? Hang-sies with the band? Done and done, my good friend. Because nothing beats NYE FOMO like knowing you’re at the coolest show in town.

      Grab NYE TIX (NOW).

We’re a friendly and seasoned little group of NY/LA musicians (currently in LA) from a plethora of great (and some well known: Drummer currently touring with Sky Ferierra) acts who’ve come together because we laugh a lot and like to play cool tunes.

We’ve just posted a sneak peak of the EP on soundcloud. It’s official release is Dec 1, but we’re happy to share it with you and your readers. Also happy to give you in any format and allow your audience to download the first two singles for free, prerelease. I would love to tell you more about us and/or send you the rest of the EP… Let me know if you’d like chat in any of the electronic or actual ways people chat these days. After having only recently returned home from an extensive 24-date tour through 12 American states, Australian singer, songwriter and international touring artist, Shelley Segal has announced she’ll be returning to the US for two exclusive shows in November. Segal will be a guest speaker and performer at Springfield Missouri’s annual Skepticon conference on November 15 and will also be supporting Matt Cusson alongside Adam Levy at the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood on November 19.

Skepticon is the largest free skeptic conference in the nation. A huge advocate for free-thinking, Segal will be guest speaker and performer amongst many prominent scientists, bloggers, authors and activists including Biologist PZ Myers, blogger/writer Greta Christina, comedian Keith Lowell Jensen, feminist, activist and blogger Rebecca Watson (from Skepchick) and author and historian Richard Carrier. Thrilled to be included and represent Australia, Segal beams, “I’m excited to be sharing my music in the US again. After a great tour I’m happy to be back for the biggest skeptics conference in the midwest and to spend a weekend with 1500+ like-minded people.”

For her second show, Segal will be performing alongside highly sought after jazz guitarist, Adam Levy (best known for his work with Norah Jones, Ani Difranco, Tracy Chapman) with whom she recently completed a successful Australian tour and this will be their first show together since, set to perform in LA for one show only. Opening for Matt Cussen’s Live In LA, they’ll be showcasing songs from their recent collaborative jazz album, Little March, alongside other special guests Shoshana Bean, Jake Simpson and Wayne Brady. “I’m really looking forward to playing with Adam. It’s going be lovely to play together again as well as supporting such great artists,” says Segal.

Tickets to Skepticon are free, tickets Live in LA are on sale now and the album Little March is out now through True Music.

Whoever said punk is dead, is dead wrong. And there’s a quartet of brothers out to prove that punk, heavily influenced by rock ‘n’ roll, is very much alive. Deemed by Rolling Stone Magazine as a band to watch in 2013, The So So Glos are bringing their loud, yet charming, sound all the way from Brooklyn to the USC campus. KXSC Radio, USC’s official independent student-run radio station, is proud to host these adventurous souls who are a bit “rough around the edges.” They’ve grown from playing music together as kids to playing in self-created spaces that have earned them a decent following in New York City. Join KXSC and The So So Glos for a night of catchy, adrenaline-inducing songs that will cause audiences to tear apart their Doc Martens on the dance floor.

El Cid presents “A Very Young Creetch-mas,” featuring

    and special guests:

    Saturday, December 7th at 9pm

El Cid, 4212 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90029

Silver Lake, CA – “Walking in a winter wonderland” may be the last thing you’ll be doing in southern California this holiday season, but a group of Los Angeles musicians are reminding us of what truly makes Christmas special – the spirit of giving.

YOUNG CREATURES have confirmed a benefit show on Saturday, December 7th at Silver Lake rock hub El Cid. “We want to get people together for a really fun night in an atmosphere of charity,” says Mike Post, singer/guitarist of Young Creatures. “We love El Cid and the whole east side music community, so this is kind of our small way of trying to give back.”

The venue, which charges $5 admission, has generously agreed to waive the door for guests who donate a new, unwrapped toy to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’ annual drive. “I work with these amazing kids every day,” says Michael Escalante, drummer of Young Creatures and employee of the CHLA Department of Radiology. “These donations are really special for kids undergoing difficult treatments during the holidays.”

The show will feature some of LA’s most exciting up-and-coming acts. The BROTHERS ZMED have signed on to support; LA music-goers will remember the hugely successful Satellite residency of their electric incarnation, THE JANKS. Also joining are THE ALTERNATES, fronted by KCSN favorite SPENCER LIVINGSTON. Young Creatures themselves created a buzz in the LA blogosphere with their most recent EP, Habitats, which won exposure in a multitude of outlets.

Doors will open at 9:00pm, with the option to pay a $5 cover charge in lieu of donation. Guests will be able to hit two birds with one stone, enjoying a great night of phenomenal live music while doing their good deed for the holiday season.

Acclaimed Chicago quintet TRAIN COMPANY coming through L.A. to start 2014

“It’s clear that Train Company is more than a blues band. The group crafts a diverse, multi-layered sound with discernable traces of jazz, pop and even orchestral arrangements, while effortlessly switching between anthemic rock vocals and airy, indie-rock introspection.” – NPR

If it’s true that a picture paints a thousand words, then the cover of Train Company’s nationally-acclaimed, self-released 2012 album The Remains of an Effort symbolizes the speedy growth these young but accomplished musicians have had over just a few short years. Gigantic cowbells are harvested from an otherwise baron landscape, and though the band has admirably made major progress and connections through consistent, nose-to-the-grindstone performing, no one may have been able to predict what a game-changer Remains has become: This is Chicago quintet is on the cusp of truly taking over.

Though vocalist/guitarist John Zozzaro, bassist Mike DeWitte and drummer Rob Lejman grinded out hardcore punk/metal together in in the mid-2000′s, Zozzaro eventually moved to New York to approach music from another angle. “While I was out there, I had plenty of time to record daily and I did so for quite some time,” he says. “I took myself away completely from all of the harder music I had been playing and was able to start a new musical endeavor. When I moved back, my appreciation for not-so-hard music had grown out of control and I had a few songs written I wanted to run past Mike and Rob. With (horn player) Mark (Alletag) and (keyboardist) Samuel (Wyatt) added to the roster, we were able to move forward progressing as musicians and continue playing together, what ever genre we decide fits.”

2009 saw the release of the group’s self-titled debut, and shortly thereafter, they were playing buzzworthy unofficial shows at South By Southwest, as well as were asked to open a sold-out Blues Traveler show at Chicago’s renowned House of Blues. Next came an EP titled Change, recorded live to tape in one day, and more high-profile opening slots, for the likes of Counting Crows and Blind Melon. Remains – as well as the new material the band is currently preparing for a 2014 release – are the sounds of a band fully realizing every one of their strengths and playing to their full potential. Their songs are the stuff of road veterans; music you’d expect from guys with over thirty years in the business, being played by guys not yet old enough to have witnessed those same decades. Here’s a band whose sound is made of several diverse, stellar record collections shaking hands and playing nice, as jazz, blues, rock and even elements of country and modern pop weave in and out of each other as true voices, not just to appeal to everyone. Says Lejman, “Whenever we’re seeing an idea or song through, we don’t try to fit a style or era, we just try to write a song that we think sounds good… We’re under the firm belief that if you don’t know where you came from, you don’t know where you’re going. Even with that said, we don’t hold any allegiance to any particular genre or style. We’re still in it to make something new for ourselves. After four years together, we are starting to understand each other better as musicians and the style limitations are fading away.”

Perhaps it’s that connection – as well as the band’s nose-to-the-grindstone work ethic, which also scored them a licensing deal with Starbucks – that led to an official sponsorship from electronic giant JVC, which allowed the band to tour more extensively and capture all their road adventures in the process. Says Lejman, “We’re really excited to be working with JVC because they have unique products we can put to use, such as the Adixxion action camera and the live streaming LS2′s. Both allow us to connect with fans in a whole new way. Sam has even taken to smashing one of the cameras onto the keys of his piano lately because it is shock proof and gets a gnarly video effect. We’ve only just started unlocking the possibilities of these cameras for live concert use, but we’re already seeing the unique ways we can use them. When JVC approached us to help develop the product and test its possibilities, we had no idea how much fun it would be and how much curiosity it would cause amongst our fans, follow bands, and even the venues and sound guys. We feel very lucky that JVC chose our band for this project. They’re one of the oldest, if not the oldest, audio/video company in the world. They have a ton of experience in building the best video cameras and that is exactly what we have dreamed of using since we started recording our live shows.” The band recently used the equipment to film a performance inside Third Man’s recording booth in Nashville – soon to be posted online – and have been raffling off JVC audio and video equipment off at their shows.

Don’t miss The Robotix performing a live showcase event at the world famous Whisky A Go Go!

Saturday Feb. 1st at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm. $10 tickets available at the door.

    8901 W. Sunset Blvd.
    West Hollywood, CA 90069

THE ROBOTIX is an exciting new band offering undeniable proof that rock ‘n roll is still alive. As countless boy bands, country singers, and rap artists have dominated the airwaves for decades, THE ROBOTIX has what it takes to help put rock music back on the map.

THE ROBOTIX includes 8-year-old drummer extraordinaire LOGAN “ROBOT” GLADDEN, who has been described by the media as “rock and roll’s answer to Justin Bieber”; 11-year-old charismatic singing sensation ANGELINA BAEZ from Los Angeles, CA; 11-year-old spirited blues guitarist BRENDAN JAMES; 12-year-old Japanese guitar prodigy YUTO MIYAZAWA, who has toured with OZZY OSBOURNE and is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Youngest Professional Guitar Player in the World; 13-year-old rock solid lefty bassist JARED DEVINO; and 15-year-old Dallas guitar phenom JON CASEL, who also serves as the band’s music director.

Collectively the kids have performed live in front of thousands, amassed millions of YouTube views, and been featured on television shows and news programs worldwide (Ellen, Conan, Barney & Friends, and even a nationwide promotional campaign for Chuck E. Cheese restaurants). Now united and hoping to take the entertainment world by storm, the band is on a self-proclaimed mission to help preserve rock and roll for future generations – one kid at a time.

THE ROBOTIX’s debut EP Rock n’ Roll, which is produced by AARON STERLING (drummer for JOHN MAYER, REGINA SPEKTOR, KELLY CLARKSON, RICHIE SAMBORA), includes a mix of original material and a few choice classic rock covers. The EP was released on December 4, 2012, and is currently available on iTunes.

SF Bay Guardian says their “…. new record should please anyone who can’t afford to see the Replacements at Coachella this year (or even those who can).”

WHO: The latest release from Bay Area denizens The American Professionals (, WE MAKE IT OUR BUSINESS (Charlie In The Box Music) was released this past January 14, 2014. Founded in 2003 by Chuck Lindo (ex Actionslacks, Jumbo Shrimp, The Nukes) in San Francisco, The American Professionals (a.k.a. Ampros) have endured more line-ups than the inside of the S.F.P.D. booking room. Today, the band has evolved (scratch that, they have devolved) into a solid power trio whose foundation includes the aforementioned Lindo (guitar/vocals), Cheryl Hendrickson (bass/vocals) and Adam White (drums).

WHAT: The first Ampro’s Los Angeles tour date in support of WE MAKE IT OUR BUSINESS is finally here from The American Professionals!

    WHERE: 3 Clubs ( @ 1123 Vine, St., Hollywood, CA 90038

WHEN: Thursday April 24, 21+ (w/ Record Release for Patrolled by Radar & Wide Awake). Doors 8pm, Ampro’s on at 9pm. Free of charge before 9pm, $5 after 9pm.

WHY: To celebrate their new CD release with their first LA show in quite some time and because The American Professionals make it their business to be the very best©, you don’t want to wait until next time to catch them.

The American Professionals (, a San Francisco power trio whose cleverly crafted songs of hope, love, guilt and fear are matched only by their beefy power chords, hooks and harmonies have confirmed April 24 at the 3 of Clubs in Hollywood to celebrate the release of their new CD We Make It Our Business on the band run label Charlie in the Box Records.

If you are interested in a review copy of WE MAKE IT OUR BUSINESS, wanted to talk to the band or needed more info, please let me know and I’m happy to send along. Let me know if you were interested in coming to the show too?

Name of Event: Freedom Socialist Party National Convention

    When: May 24-26 (public days)

Where: (AFSCME) District Council 36 Building, 3rd Floor, 514 Shatto Pl, Los Angeles, California 90020.

What: The weather may be balmy in sunny Los Angeles, but the political climate is anything but.
Police are targeting immigrants, unionists, and radicals; 58,000 people are homeless, 30 percent of them women; the right wing is in a frenzy over LGBT rights; and the doors of education are closed to many young people of color, while the doors of the prison-industrial complex are wide open. At the same time, LA is a national flashpoint for struggles against injustices like these.

That makes LA the perfect place for the revolutionary feminist Freedom Socialist Party (FSP) to convene over the Memorial Day weekend, May 24-27. The convention will be an opportunity for FSP members and friends to discuss how best to tackle the problems of the day, from the calamitous effects of the Great Recession on workers and the poor to the challenge of saving the planet from the fossil fuel ogres.

Leba is one of the most talented artists in Los Angeles.
The body of he work created for his upcoming solo show is gilded proof. “Visions” is a breathtaking exhibition featuring new works by Leba.

Gold Haus Gallery//5713 N. Figueroa Street, Highland Park, CA 90042//

    With true skill and a true heart, Leba’s stage was already set. Then, enter;
Gustav Klimt. Harry Clark. Telopa Treloky. Vincent Van Gogh.
Four great artists whom Leba admires and respects. With great ambition, he set out to combine each of their styles, adding elements of Christian mysticism to create a unique voice for this very special show. Leba did more than that. He went on to paint an epic body of work, in which an almost dream-like world was created.

With perfect balance, Leba’s body of work evokes the familiar while protecting the unknown. Comprised of paintings both rich in mystery and full of beauty, the works to be exhibited possess a rare, almost human ability to welcome us to step closer and go beyond the paint and wood and canvas. With encouragement, they invite us to explore freely, to become a part of their world which exists only in this fabricated dimension – where trouble, hurt, and confusion are greeted with elegance and grace.
“Painting is the search for truth. Not what your mind sees or what your eye thinks it sees, but what’s really there.” Leba
Such truths are exposed in this solid exhibition. Leba’s “Visions” is a gift allowing us to see what’s really there. 24K gold leaf is used heavily throughout Leba’s gorgeous show. Though visually delicate, his use of gold screams with an uncanny boldness, highlighting strength in what may be seen as frailty, serving not only as a through line, but also as a reminder, that gold is a feeling. Experiencing “Visions” will make you feel like gold.

Exciting solo show coming up at Project Gallery in Hollywood!

Street artist HUEMAN is taking it back to the gallery walls in a new solo exhibit opening June 5, 2014 at Project Gallery. “Between the Lines,” will showcase more than 12 new pieces on canvas and wood until July 20. The solo show is a play on the artist’s signature style as well as the theme of her new collection of work. A freestyler to the core, HUEMAN has been perfecting a technique of creating free-flowing abstract shapes, finding faces within their framework and then introducing sharp lines to create structure and dimension.

HUEMAN says, “When people look at art, sometimes they look for things that may or may not be there. With [Between the Lines] I want to talk about human behavior and the tendency to place meaning and significance in what we see. I want to examine the not-so obvious: subtexts, innuendos, and the things that go unsaid. I want viewers to literally read between the lines.”

Project Gallery is located at 1553 N. Cahuenga Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90028.

THREE TIMES BAD, “a hot new San Francisco string band” (Hood River News), is releasing its debut CD, American Sojourn, on May 17th. I hope you’ll consider spreading the word on the “incredible musicianship” (Victory Swig) of this “dirty American roots” (The Register-Guard) combo that’s “catchy as hell” (Not About Religion) and kin to the Devil Makes Three and Old Crow Medicine Show while carving out a big sound all its own.

Think: “Epic moustaches and bent bluegrass” (The Source Weekly), backwoods blues, outlaw country, hillbilly swing, Appalachian rags, Gypsy jazz, old-time gospel, murder ballads, honkytonk, folk songs, and hot singalongs. The group includes band leader Jesus Angel Garcia (acoustic guitar, banjo, lead vox), Thomas Romero (mandolin, backup vox), Megan McDevitt (upright bass, backup vox), and Jean-Pierre Duboucheron (fiddle, backup vox). This regional touring ensemble has performed all over California and the PacNW, including multiple appearances at the Ink n Iron Festival in Long Beach and the Humboldt Hills Hoedown.

MEDIA-ONLY MUSIC (private link — PLEASE DO NOT POST — streaming tracks are also downloadable; full-album Bandcamp DOWNLOAD CODE available by request)

VIDEO #1 “Bed o’ Cornbread Crumbs”

    VIDEO #2 “Fuh-reeeak!”

ORIGINAL BACKSTORY Three Times Bad was born from bandleader Jesus Angel Garcia’s acclaimed transmedia novel, badbadbad (New Pulp Press), and a number of lyrics on American Sojourn come directly from stories in the book.

PRESS “This is boot-stompin’, beer-swillin’, muddy roots music, where outlaw bluegrass meets anti-folk meets hillbilly punk in a band of city-dwellers who want nothing more than to be pickin’ and howlin’ from a rickety front porch Appalachia.” (Bend Bulletin)

EPIC CD RELEASE SHOW AmeriCarnival: a Dirty American Roots Barnstorm!

SUMMER WEST COAST TOUR (more dates TBA) — including festival appearances at the 11th Annual Ink-n-Iron Fest (with Merle Haggard headlining), Bend Summer Fest, and the 38th Annual San Francisco Free Folk Fest.

I currently attend Berklee College of Music and finished my debut EP “Dream In Color” which was produced by Austin Bello from the band Forever The Sickest Kids. I wanted to label myself to multiple genres and write lyrics others could relate to. The theme of this EP is to pay attention to the little details of life and live in the moment. I have attached my band camp link to the EP, social media links, a picture of myself and my biography. I hope you enjoy what you hear and thank you for your time!

A different kind of musical dawn is coming with flashes of rowdy big band, simmering soul and swaggering rock ‘n’ roll as Louis Prima Jr. and the Witnesses prepare to ignite a new legacy with their second full-length album, Blow out June 10 on Warrior Records/Universal Music Distribution.
See the video for the song GO LETS GO here:

With Blow, Prima and the Witnesses revive a boogie woogie spirit for the modern generation. “The message is to have a good time and enjoy life,” explains Prima. “Get up and move. This album is hyper. It makes you want to dance.” Not content to sit on the legacy they so passionately protect, LPJ and the band are taking a page from his father’s playbook, by wailing “Prima-Style” like its 2014.
Originally formed in 2007, Louis Prima Jr. and the Witnesses began to hit full stride at their breakout performance at the 2010 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. They’ve toured from Los Angeles to Sicily and shared the stage with everyone from Aretha Franklin to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Impatiently waiting to show the world what mayhem could come from the collective talents and years of diverse musical experience that make up the whole of its members. If you’ve seen them in concert, you’ll know a bit about what to expect from the musical minds of the Witnesses. As energetic and over-the-top as their live shows, BLOW continues the ever-changing musical journey that Prima Sr. began in the 30’s.
Building off of the success of their critically acclaimed debut CD Return of the Wildest!, Prima and the Witnesses immersed themselves in writing original music for the first time together and headed into the studio with co-producer and Warrior Records C.E.O. Jim Ervin. Recorded at Capitol Records in Studio B, where Prima Sr. recorded his hits of the 50’s and 60’s, the seriousness of this music is masked only by the obvious fun that was had making it. The outcome is a host of superb innovative new material as eclectic and unique as each member of this powerhouse band, plus revved-up versions of Adam Ant’s Goody Two Shoes and Louis Prima Sr.’s Robin Hood. Prima also sneaks in a vocal and trumpet duet with his father on That’s My Home, utilizing Sr.’s original vocal/trumpet solo from the 1959 recording combined with a new music track created by LP Jr. and the Witnesses. The Louis Armstrong cover bridges the gap between family generations as it rises into a heartfelt and hypnotic tribute to his father and is a loving homage to the city they both adore. But it’s on songs like first single Go Let’s Go, the musical party I Just Wanna Have Fun and the soulfully explosive Fame And Glory that the band’s uniqueness shines through. The result of blending the skills of these musicians is a blistering assault on your senses that will make you shout out loud and get up and move.
Of course Prima has a lot to live up to–sharing a name with his celebrated father¬¬–but a new legend is being born, and it’s about to BLOW you away.

    Hey Losanjealous,

My name is Morgan and I work with Substance Co Music. We have worked with bands like Tame Impala and Young the Giant, and are currently working with the new indie-pop band “Imperial Mammoth”. The band is a personal favorite of mine. Check out the new single, “Little Earthquakes”

The full “Gold Confetti” LP will be released later this month.

    Learn more about the band-

Leonard Jackson / Laura Jane Scott

For fans of: The Naked and Famous, CHVRCHES, Foster The People

Imperial Mammoth began in bed. When musician Laura Jane Scott lay in recovery from knee-surgery, her boyfriend and fellow singer-songwriter Leonard Jackson brought his guitar to pass the time. Together they sang, and wrote some songs, and thought it sounded good enough to record.

It didn’t take long for people to agree. Their debut single “Requiem On Water” landed in the Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 soundtrack (certified gold), and featured in a key scene in the film. Just a week after their own wedding, Laura and Leonard played their first show as Imperial Mammoth to 1500 fans at the Breaking Dawn premiere.

They soon followed with the EP, “Where Satellites Fall,” building their fan base with over thirty placements in TV and film, including spots in Parenthood, About A Boy, Awkward, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Ragz, and Drop Dead Diva.

The band grew, and the sound got bigger. They enlisted cutting-edge producer Nate Pyfer (Kascade, Mideau), and mixer Mark Needham (The Killers, Walk The Moon, Imagine Dragons) to actualize their biggest work to date, the new LP: Gold Confetti (out June 24th, 2014 on Bleed101 Records).

Even as the music propels them into daring territories, the eleven song album finds the band — much like the great beasts that gave them their name — stuck in the past. From their fondness for Raymond Chandler’s Hollywood (The Last One To Leave The Party), and the bittersweet pull of distant loves (The Limitless Hours and Mooncatcher), to their re-casting of a local crime as a mediation on villainy (Fifty-Five Fires), Imperial Mammoth is a band that can’t let go.

It makes sense then that they describe the new album as a study of timeless themes. Or, as put by Jackson, Gold Confetti is an album of “songs about love, loss, and longing — $.099 each.”

They will be touring nationally in conjunction with the record’s release.

We would absolutely love the opportunity as we think you would love our program, inspired to create a movement, called shirtS4Straws. shirtS4Straws provides the access of a reusable water filter (LifeStraw) to children in Africa and Central America through the purchase of 100% organic cotton t-shirt.

We are here to create a movement to inspire thousands, potentially millions. We have already partnered with LifeStraw, Whole Foods Markets and Groceries Apparel! Please help us achieve this goal as everyone who sees or hears about us is another opportunity someone has to get access to clean drinking water.

“Songs for a Voodoo Wedding’ are back alley tales, gin joint anecdotes and street corner legend backs by throw back blues playing which would make Robert Johnson stand up and profess his love to 7Horse.” – Innocent Words

7Horse’s Joie Calio and Phil Leavitt are releasing their new album Songs For A Voodoo Wedding today, produced by the two longtime friends and bandmates, engineered by Jonathan Chi and Scott Gordon, mixed by Dave Way and mastered by Howie Weinberg. The band is currently on the first wave of their summer dates.

“their musical chemistry is clear throughout the album” –Celebrity Café

The duo’s well-versed roots in rock ‘n’ roll’s rich past and previous success with both solo and collaborative projects have catapulted 7Horse to noteworthy status.

The release of the new album coincides with The Holy Day of Voodoo: St. Johns Eve, a celebration that honors the Voodoo Queen Maria Laveau, and much of the inspiration for the new album comes from a visit to New Orleans. The Big Easy is a city the vocalist/drummer had visited often while on tour, but he’d never spent considerable time there until he went to attend a friend’s wedding. “It got the juices flowing.” Explained Leavitt said.

    Dear Editor:

I hope this email finds you well . How are you ? I was hoping to catch your interest re: the following project I am working on .

As I noticed driving through Los Angeles how many retail store fronts are available for rent and just siting there empty I revisited the idea again to use empty store fronts as stage to showcase local artists. A public ART installation that will reenergize the neighborhood so to speak

My thought behind it is , that trendy shopping areas in Los Angeles are NOT losing its cachet, they are simply in transition to become even more beautiful. Even though a lot of the stores are vacant, despite drastic rent reductions, it sometimes does look a little meek around town , realizing that all the glamorous stores have either closed or moved and have left behind a rather “ugly” promenade of empty store fronts .

In order to make this transition a bit more exciting , I have teamed up with local commercial real estate agents and landlords, gathered 8 very talented artists , and we are trying to use the empty store fronts for ART displays until a new renter have signed a new lease .

    Everyone benefits from it :

    - Provides an exciting new way to market vacant properties to potential tenants

    - Increases pedestrian traffic to surrounding busainess

    - Showcases vacant retail spaces in new ways, inspiring new users

    - allows artists to showcase their work to exhibit their work

    - Offers emerging artists the oppurtunity to exhibit their work

    - Increases the presence of ART in the community

So in order to cover direct expenses , I started a kickstarter campaign hoping to raise and to create awareness for this project . I got a great responds , many well wishes, but I was hoping that maybe you would be interested to highlight the effort of promoting community art as well ? It is such a great project and it does take a village to get it going .

    More info:

I have included two links with more information and I am hoping that I maybe caught your interest at least a little and it would be great if you could make a pledge or help to spread the word .

I appreciate your time . Thank you .

Based out of Los Angeles, Dreaming Bull is what you get when you mix rock ‘n roll with dirty juke joint blues and gospel shouts. Their self produced, self-titled album is out now.

The band is a work of collaborative musical art by Gabe Rowland and Nic Capelle. It was a chance meeting between music lifers: Gabe’s band opened for Nic’s in Chicago, the two – Gabe from Northeast LA and Nic from Western Australia – bonded over a mutual love of “dusty, old vintage gospel and lost blues.”

“On an ice-cold walk down Irving Park in Chicago,” Gabe explains, “we decided: heavy gospel influence, a little garage-psychedelic… We always acknowledge those parameters,” Gabe continues, “but the music takes on a life of its own. Once it gets dragged through all the early Van Halen records that are in your gut, it’s going to come out modern.”

A lot of craft goes into what sounds like abandon. Gabe sat behind the kit for Moby, John Cale and his own bands Momma Stud (Virgin) and The Peak Show (Atlantic), and is a go-to collaborator for Beastie Boys producer Mario C. Nic’s first band won an international talent search when he was 20. His later outfit Capelle built a fierce following in Europe.

Their sound has already been prized by music supervisors. The songs “No Use” from the debut album added dramatic punch to the season finale of USA’s “Suits.” And “Get Things Done” soundtracked Carl’s Jr.’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” ad while “Dirty Girl” fit the vibe for FX’s “Sons of Anarchy.”

    8-10 pm
    (formerly Aroma Bakery Cafe)
    7373 Sunset Blvd, LA 90046
Los Angeles-based EDM band, Vío, are releasing their debut EP, Keep On Lovin’, which features a mix of electro pop, trip hop and neoclassical dark wave. You are invited to their Listening Party, and feast on free cookies and coffee on Thursday, July 10th at Aroma Bakery Bar and Grill, 7373 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, 90046.
There is plenty of Valet parking behind Aroma entering from Sunset Blvd just before the restaurant. It is FREE the 1st hour, and $3 after your 1st hour. Aroma Bar and Grill (323) 850-8120.

Band info: The Keep On Lovin’ EP is partially produced by ‘Scobra’, and features collaborations with ‘Gentleman Junkie’ front-man, Ed Korn, and ‘So High Above the Sky’. Keep On Lovin’ precedes their single, Don’t Say That, receiving airplay in Europe, as Vío was selected as Featured Artist on the radio show Gaga Eletrix GETV. Vío was recently Artist of the Week on Normality’s RantRadio Industrial, and made it to the top 10 finalists in the Blast Your Music Contest at Stage Red Studios.

When onstage, Vío combines electronic dance music with live instrumentation such as viola, guitar, drums, keyboard and bass guitar. This is reflected in the music of Keep On Lovin’, mixing modern and ancient, organic and digital. Keep On Lovin’ has many themes like desire, compassion and even politics, with a dark, seductive and ethereal sound you can dance to. The upbeat, yet mellow “Out of Sync (Renaissance Remix)” is followed by neoclassical “Question”, which delves into themes like the Inquisition and the Occupy movement. “Don’t Say That” is a trip hop anthem which ponders censorship, and was chosen as May’s selected Track of the Month on UK’s Ads Record’s Podcast and streamed globally. Vio’s video, ‘Don’t Say That’, has also been chosen as Video of the Month for July!

Our event is known to be the largest and oldest Korean cultural festival in the country.

Here is some information about us:
The Los Angeles Korean Festival Foundation was founded in 1973, as leaders of the burgeoning Korean immigrant community of the greater Los Angeles area recognized the importance of preserving their ethnic identity and organized the Los Angeles Korean Festival. As a non-profit organization, the LAKFF organizes the annual Los Angeles Korean Festival with the assistance of its numerous sponsors. With over 400,000 attendees each year, the Los Angeles Korean Festival is one of the largest ethnic celebrations in the nation.

The mission of the Los Angeles Korean Festival is not only to provide an opportunity for the young Korean-American second generation to appreciate their culture and heritage, but also to serve as an instrument for which people from all ethnic groups can learn and experience Korean culture.

This year’s Los Angeles Korean Festival (the 41st annual festival) will be held from Thursday, September 18th to Sunday, September 21st.
