Shows of Note: Bleached @ Echoplex 4/6, Gabriella Cohen @ Fonda 4/8, Sleaford Mods @ Echoplex 4/9

bleachedBleached Presents: The Can You Deal? Riot
Bleached w/ The Regrettes, Upset, The Side Eyes, Allison Wolfe (Sex Stains, Bratmobile) DJ, No Parents (DJ)
Thursday, April 6 | Echoplex | [Tickets & Info]

One of L.A.’s very best, poppy punk rockers Bleached in a hometown event gig, supporting the March release of their new e.p. (and accompanying zine of the same title), “Can You Deal?” (Dead Oceans)—maybe their finest single yet—huge guitars, catchy riffs, honeyed vocal melodies for days—and also serving as a warmup for their fitting stint opening for The Damned’s upcoming west coast swing. The Regrettes and Upset open.

w/ Foxygen, Kingdom of Not
Fonda Theater | Saturday, April 8
[Tickets & Info]

The tremendous Foxygen live experience already well established, opener Gabriella Cohen, next up in a recent wave of standout singer-songwriters from Down Under, as opener adds just one more reason to come out. Her dialed-in aesthetic—garage band guitars, spectral vocals, a touch of vintage Mazzy Star—and crafty way around a tune on her new LP, Full Disclosure and No Details (Captured Tracks), should make for a tasty L.A. debut.

w/ The Urinals, Terminal A
Echoplex | Sunday, April 9
[Tickets & Info]

Finally, the L.A. debut for the angry English (Nottingham) punk rap duo Sleaford Mods, on the heels of their Rough Trade debut and 10th overall LP, English Tapas. Spitting wordy vitriolic lyrics on how modern life is (still) rubbish for the working class 99% over cheap, effective laptop beats–think Mark E. Smith, Suicide, The Streets–they arrive just in time. The odd reference may be too English for some (Weetabix, BHS, etc) but their broader targets—predatory capitalism, vacuous celebrity culture, the Man, etc.—are universal.
