Pick of the Week: Les Savy Fav @ Avalon
Les Savy Fav don’t tour too often–each band member has his own thing going on:
- Tim Harrington (vocals) owns a home & apparel line
- Seth Jabour (guitar) is a successful illustrator
- Syd Butler (bass) runs Frenchkiss records
- Harrison Haynes (drums) is an established painter
But when they do hit the road, they put on one of the most entertaining indie rock shows today. These guys are my heroes. Don’t miss them Tuesday night at Avalon.

Digital Underground are touring again? Shock G must need the money. That, or the Humpty Dance is his [only] chance to do the hump…
Man, what’s up w/ the Troubadour not taking fax orders for the YYYs!? Should have camped out @ Ritmo Latino. Assed out again….
This annoyed the shit out of me too, Oscar. Ticketmaster has got to come up with a way to give everyone a fair shot at big ticket shows like the YYYs at the Troub.
Here’s my proposal:
1) Allow registered users with verified credentials to request tickets for a given show
2) Fill requests lottery-style at the on-sale time
3) Any remaining tickets move to the usual first come, first served system
I’ve gotten pretty good at dealing with the ticketmaster system. Although, I really wish they’d lower their rediculous service charges.
That sounds good Ron. What sucks was the YYYs actually sent an e-mail out about how scalpers get dibs before the fans and I figured they would do a member sale before the Ticketmaster sale. At least, for a venue this small, they should have done what The Strokes did, just have everyone Will Call and take fax orders. You could have even sold them via Ticketmaster Will Call. There wasn’t even a ticket limit for the YYYs shows! That would have helped too. I’m sure there’s a scumbag scalper out there with a nice stack of tickets to sell on EBay.
I didn’t have that much of a problem with Ticketmaster. What sucks is that they didn’t have it up in their system till Saturday and that they didn’t have at least a 4 ticket limit so there would be more tickets available to all. That way if you’re stuck behind someone at Robinson’s May buying Strokes or Black Eyed Peas tickets that day, you still have a shot before the stock of tickets is out.
TM can be/must be worked around. They have no reason to alter a thriving biz model to help the average Joe. In fact, their newest feature does the exact opposite with these ridiculous auctioned tickets. You just have to get a jump on the on-sales and pick up an extra pair to unload later on at market value or help out a fan. And forget about ever going in-person to a Robinsons-May. This particular YYYs on-sale was thrown off by their Coachella commitment which prevented (or limited) advance advertising.
I found someone to trade w/! I traded my 4 Arctic Monkeys for 4 Yeah Yeah Yeahs for Saturday. Yeah!
Wow–nice job Oscar. I see a future for you at Barry’s Tickets.
