Notes:
The talented Brothers Jarman who call themselves The Cribs returned to Los Angeles to play the Troubadour. While the trio did not exude their normal confidence at Coachella playing their new material, tonight’s performance was spot on. Throughout the show songs from their latest album Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever seamlessly complimented numbers from their previous two albums. Was it due primarily to better set list sequencing, more confident playing, or just a full set vs. the abridged festival set was hard to tell. In between rocking out, Ryan and Gary met centerstage and whispered the language of twins in each other’s ear. This was all standard Cribs’ live fare, but like everything else the band does it was done with a lack of self consciousness. The crowd stuck around and urged the band to return for an encore. This was after the cymbal stands had been kicked down and amps already turned off. As they came back on stage, the band even admitted that they hate playing encores. Fellow Brit rockers Editors watched from the balcony as did LA resident Meg White. Courtney Love arrived solo to hang out with the band afterwards. Sean Na Na fronted by Har Mar Superstar’s non-alter-ego, Sean Tillmann, and promising young band The Hugs opened the evening. If you’re kicking yourself for missing the show, The Cribs will perform July 27th on The Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
