Depeche Mode to Play Free Show on Hollywood Blvd

By Ryan - Thursday April 09th 2009

depecheHEADS UP
Depeche Mode @ Hollywood Blvd Between Vine And Gower Thu Apr 23 (FREE)

Hat tip to Oscar over at Scenestar, where I read the news this morning. Get your tickets @ 1iota now…or don’t. Tickets are not required, but purportedly will get you closer to the stage at this free streetside show.

Next up, to quote Victor and cite another blog we read in one fell swoop of acknowledgment:

Can’t believe the city signed off on this. Clearly they did not learn anything from the depeche mode riots of 1990 – see:

http://franklinavenue.blogspot.com/2009/03/retro-friday-las-depeche-mode-debacle.html

The 1990 news clips on Mike’s blog above are priceless; do have a look. See you up on the boulevard April 23, and remember when filling that flask of yours: Everything counts in large amounts.

What now?

Awww. Thanks for the shout out! I was at the Warehouse back in the day as a kid. INSANE! I should bring Richard Blade as my plus 1 to this show.

Just watched those newsclips again and can’t get over how postively foreign almost every aspect is – the kids, newscasters, the TV graphics, the stupid Beverly Center, all of it. Add in late generation VHS dub and Youtube compression and this may as well have been a stray transmission from 1970’s Poland instead of 1990’s L.A.

Even Warren Olney with 1990 OlneyVoice?

Has anyone been to one of these free Jimmy Kimmel shows? Will it even be possible to see and hear them on stage without having a ticket?

Well, it’s a bit confusing. This concert was originally reported by 1iota as being free to the public, even if you did not get free tickets from them. However, as recently as tax day, the depechemode.com site said:

    04.15.2009

Due to overwhelming demand tickets for the Depeche Mode performance on the April 23rd Jimmy Kimmel show are no longer available. This event is invite only and is not open to the general public. Please do not come to the Hollywood location on April 23rd if you do not have a ticket – you will be turned away.

However, there is some good news. We do have 150 VIP pit bracelets to give away. We’re happy to announce that 75 winners will receive 2 VIP pit bracelets through this special contest on the site. Click here to enter. Good luck!

Just to be clear, if you already have a ticket to the event (1iota, KROQ), you are ok.

Thusly the concert is apparently indeed invite only now, and 1iota has updated their page as well. So, I’d say 5pm if you have a ticket from 1iota, and scope things out thoroughly if you do not. Expect a fiasco, either route you choose. Good luck out there and don’t enjoy the silence of your living room, whatever you do.

I was at the Warehouse Record signing too – I flew in from TX for it! That was crazy! I was also at the premier of 101. I sooo want to drive down right now but the chaos will be too much on a wk. night. Anyone know how to watch it live? I can’t believe I am not going! Guess I’m not 16 anymore!!!!
