Sparks To Perform “Kimono My House” Live with Orchestra, February 14 & 15

Los Angeles’s musical genius/mad scientist prodigal sons Sparks return with a pair of special shows at The Theater at the Ace Hotel in Downtown February 14th and 15th. (Coincidentally, the dates mark the one-year anniversary of the gorgeous if awkwardly named restored L.A. venue. Perhaps you saw Belle & Sebastian and/or Slowdive there in their inaugural year.)

Reproducing the well-received December 2014 London Barbican shows for the 40th anniversary of their seminal Kimono My House album, the duo will again perform that album in full, backed by a 38-piece orchestra–three more players than the measly 35-piece orchestra across the pond. The restless, inventive arrangements of those 10 stunning aroque pop songs should make for an aural thrill ride.

Following the recital of Kimono, the night will commence with a selection of classic tracks across their storied 20+ album career.

Romantics at heart, it’s not the first time Sparks have celebrated Valentine’s Day with a show at a historic Los Angeles venue–also having done so at their alma matter UCLA back in 2009. Why not revisit a nice writeup on that Royce Hall show? And while you’re at it, how about digging out a review from their excellent 2006 Avalon Hollywood show? Not too bad a read, if I say so myself (I wrote it).
