Admittedly this one’s a bit outside our wheelhouse, but the Stephen Stills/Kenny Wayne Sheppard/Barry Goldberg project The Rides – not a fan of the term “supergroup” myself, but feel free to apply it if you like – makes a rare stop in the I.E. at the Riverside Fox PAC next Sunday, June 5. (Glad to see that theater out there continue to resurrect and land solid bookings; Joe Jackson coming up on June 19.) They’re a dad-friendly bluesy rock but they might catch you off guard with surprising covers of “Search & Destroy” and “Rockin’ In The Free World” done up with Still’s familiar soft rasp. Live, they’ll draw from their two albums – the new one Pierced Arrow (out now, not yet streaming) is more classic songwriting, with KWS getting even more reign to open the throttle on his Strat – and they just might drop a Stills classic like “Love the One You’re With” into the set list, you never know.
