Earlimart, Goldspot @ Hollywood and Highland
Today’s Mall Brand Manager needs to convince you that you aren’t going to some dumpy mall, you’re taking part in a much greater civilized community experience. Thus they exchange Mall with highbrow names like Galleria, Pavillion or Promenade. Screw that. Check out LA-based Earlimart and Goldspot for free on Thursday at the H&H Mall. But don’t buy anything.

Wow, Earilmart gets the pick over me this week? Really?

That was supposed to read ‘Comment by Beck’ not Victor. He asked me to post it for him.

We should build in an self edit comments function. For comedy’s sake.

That should have read ‘A self edit comments’. I originally wrote ‘an edit comments fuction’ but I went back and added the ’self’ because I don’t mean an administrator edit fuction. Got it? OK. Losanjealous will not stand for improper definite article usage.

Was that last comment clear? You use ‘a’ before consonants and ‘an’ before vowels is what I meant. Or rather vowel sounds, not just vowels t themselves. But some people say and write ‘an historic…’, which I don’t understand. Can some one explain this one or do I have to dig out the Strunk & White? Thanks.

Really, though there are a o’ good bunch bands in addition to Earlimart this week. Go Team, Kings of Leon, Le Tigre (w/ Electrelane), Mia Doi. Earlimart wish they wrote anything as good as Grandaddy’s B-sides.

I assign bonus points to underpublicized and free shows. It’s a complex algorithm.

Also, don’t waste your money on Go Team. They are way overrated–two drummers who can barely keep beat and they use a drum machine on top of that. And the singer goes overboard on the audience participation thing.

Do the Getty show on Saturday though. Should be juicy.

another late addition for thursday that i’ve been apparently harboring a while: fans of sweet sweet soul music may want to check out the rebirth @ the little temple before they head off to europe, decide they like it there, and stay there. while at little temple you can walk around the corner outside and bemoan the loss of legendary LA shack jay’s jayburger…and then let me know if the parking lot art is still intact.

[...] more times than I care to count. Ron gave ‘em the coveted PICK OF THE WEEK nod way back in July, 2005 (aside: we all know Ron’s penchant for Hollywood and Highland. Did the July ‘05 venue [...]
