De Palma Series at LACMA Kicks Off Tonight
By Victor - Friday September 15th 2006

Opening night of the De Palma series at LACMA Films. It begins with a pair of his 70’s cult classics, Sisters and Phantom of the Paradise. Sisters was recently reissued as a Criterion DVD release. Phantom is often put up along side Rocky Horror Picture Show as a classic of the camp comedic rock musical genre.
The series, which includes several essential De Palma titles, including Scarface, Carrie, The Untouchables and Femme Fatale among others, runs through 9/30. Full details and information at lacma.org.

Oh man, I saw Phantom on cable a couple years back. That’s one really freaked out movie. Not as overtly camp as Rocky Horror which is why it doesn’t get the weekly midnight screenings. More just really bizarre and twisted. If you’ve not seen it, go. Maybe sneak in some high octane booze. It can only help.
