Conquer the Tower
Climb the 1500 steps of the US Bank Tower – the tallest office building west of the Mississippi – to promote healthy lifestyles and raise funds that help the YMCA build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Through Sat 10/7.

Gary Taxali @ La Luz de Jesus

Short Screams Film Fest @ CIA
The Short Screams Film Fest strives to present the best short films in the horror genre. The evening will also feature live performances by puppeteer SCOTT LAND (Team America), magician BRUCE BLOCK (2005 “Best of Las Vegas”) and lots of CREEPY surprises!

SoundWalk
Friday evening performances by sound artists plus a one-night walking-tour on Saturday of sound installations by over 50 local and international sound artists. Through Sat 10/7.

Bliss Express Show @ Nucleus
21 of today’s most striking pop artists explore the idea of happiness. From Japan and Korea to China, France and North America, they evoke fashion, rock ’n’ roll, nature, graffiti, movies, money, sex and Sunday morning cartoons in tackling a universal question. Through Wed 10/25.

Brewery Art Walk @ The Brewery
Free weekend of Open Artist Studios at the Brewery Arts Colony with over 100 Artists, Painters, Sculptors, and Designers open the doors of their art studios to the public. Through Sun 10/8.

Evah Fan: I Bacon Powder @ GR2
The primary theme is food. There will be 25-30 new paintings and a few sculptures made out of Sculpey. The show’s title sums up the awkwardness of her outlandish portrayals of food. Say “I beg your pardon” five times fast, and you might get it. Through Thu 11/9.

Grand Avenue Festival
Free Music, Theater, Opera and Dance Performances, free admission to MOCA, plus sample delicious creations for $5 and less from the area’s finest restaurants.

Hive Gallery October Show
Melissa Moss will be our featured artist. She will be exhibiting all new pieces for the show as well as never before seen drawings and prints. In addition, Max Grundy has been working all week on his installation, in our new FEATURED INSTALLATION/LIVE PAINTING area.

Forest Whitaker Screens Raise the Red Lantern @ Skirball Cultural Center
Whitaker will screen the beautifully photographed Raise the Red Lantern. Noted for its rich visuals, the film was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film in 1992.

Peter Falk @ Book Soup
Peter Falk takes readers behind the scenes into his professional and private life–starting in Hartford, where he worked as a management analyst for the Connecticut State Budget Bureau through an earlier attempt to work with the CIA, and ultimately acting.
