PICK OF THE WEEK: Sweden

sweden flagThe Knife, Love is All and The Ark. All from Sweden. All in L.A. this week. Are we to believe this is a mere coincidence? And I suppose its also a coincidence that I just received a 2007 IKEA catalog in the mail? Goddamit, we are in the midst of a Swedish Invasion. I said it. Skål!

Ron, you aren’t keeping up with the times!

The Ark show is canceled (blame Bush), but you’ve left off some of the best Swede’s of all!: Quit Your Dayjob, opening for Ok Go tonight. They’re the best Synth-Punk band since Devo (spread it around).

And tell Ryan the burrito review is still coming, I’m tired of hibernation.

Spike–I heard about the Ark incident but are you sure the L.A. show’s cancelled? Tickets are still on sale.

And thanks for pointing out yet another Swedish band in town this week. I’m telling you, Swedish Invasion.

Also, Ryan: Spike’s burrito review is still coming, He’s tired of hibernation.

Here’s one to add to your roster of shows.

Today, Ladytron DJ Set & MSTRKRFT!
    Monday Oct 30th
At the Standard Downtown for $5 w/ RSVP. They go on at 9pm.

    RSVP to anthem-magazine.com/rsvp

    Have fun kids!

Great find, Oscar. Now does anyone know what’s going on with Spike’s burrito review?

    Ron: victor:
If you run into Spike, please tell him that I look forward to his review.

Those Swedes are OK. However, the real Scandinavian action this weekend will be at The Annual Sons of Norway Lutefisk & Meatball Dinner. It will be taking place at the Norrona Lodge in Van Nuys on Friday, November 10 & Saturday, November 11. There will be meatballs and there will be lutefisk.

Swedish action is 24/7 all up in IKEA. Can’t beat their prices baby! Their quality is a whole other story….

Just added to the list: Justice spinning at a free Turntable Lab instore tommorrow. Thanks to Steve for the tip!

Justice will also be spinning tonight at the Standard Downtown rooftop at the Ladytron/MSTRKRFT event. I forgot to add that.

    Oscar:
If you run into Spike there, please tell him that I look forward to his burrito review.

Will do kid! He might be too distracted by the hot dog vendors in Downtown L.A. to actually make it upstairs. Mmmm… bacon-wrapped downtown ghetto dogs…..

    Update!

The RSVP for the Ladytron/MSTRKRFT/Justice Dj Set @ The Standard Downtown is now CLOSED!

If you got to send your info with your RSVP then congrats! If not, use your mad skills to get in. Last option? Pay to see MSTRKRFT/Justice @ Safari Sam’s tomorrow for $25 or Ladytron @ The El Rey for $25. Happy Halloween!

Does the Troubadour allow digital cameras? Where is the best place to park for free?

  15. Posted by showgoer 10/31/06 at 11:46 am # Reply

our biggest fan– you can usually find free parking along that stretch of Melrose just down from SM Blvd. The Troub is cool and usually allows small non-pro digital cameras on a don’t ask/don’t tell basis. Just don’t go flashing away during the whole show.

Flavorpill has the Scissor Sisters opening for Jamie Lidell on Wednesday. Can anyone confirm?

  17. Posted by this hearts on fire 11/1/06 at 11:46 am # Reply

According to TicketWeb it’s actually SAFETY Scissors. Go figure

Sell your brian wilson tickets, ditch the safety scissors, and go see VOXTROT tonight!

  19. Posted by Oscar 11/1/06 at 1:55 pm # Reply

Scissor Sisters are in the UK. There’s no way it’s them under an alias. I would let Flavorpill know kid.

  20. Posted by humberto 11/1/06 at 2:42 pm # Reply

yeah, on a myspace bulletin, it says Jamie Lidell is playing with the SAFETY scissors and J-Logic. not the scissor sisters.
