Cadillac Beach (Limited Edition) @ Machine Project
Cadillac Beach (Limited Edition) is a musical installation consisting of manipulated whale recordings, custom built sound systems and three Cadillac Escalades. Nearby tiny seagulls sing out of used styrofoam coffee cups, transplanting an oceanic experience to the sidewalk and the gallery. Through Sat 3/31.

Golden West USA Table Tennis Tournament
Santa Monica College – which has had a long and interesting history in the world of Ping-Pong – will host the Golden West USA Table Tennis Tournament. The tournament will also feature a short ceremony celebrating the 36th anniversary of U.S.-China “Ping-Pong Diplomacy” that opened the doors for diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1971. Displaced @ Found Gallery
A year and a half after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the gulf coast states, residents are still coping with the devastation and subsequent rebuilding. Naturally, artwork emanating from the area has begun to reflect these issues and struggles. Thus, Found Gallery curator Jonny Coleman, himself a New Orleans native, has gathered various pieces of art from gulf coast artists for a show entitled “Displaced.” Through Sat 4/28.

Hit the Deck
Original art showcase of artists from around the world using skateboard decks as the medium Through Sat 4/21.

How soft is the wax? @ Machine Project
Various musical mystery guests will be playing quiet noise in the secret gallery. A dedicated bunch will be observing in the same room, each committed to calling someone on the ground floor of Machine on their cellphone creating a multiphonic tiny speaker extravaganza. Turns can and surely will be taken to listen to the immediate and immediately broadcast experience.

All day event co-organized by The Korean Cultural Center of Los Angeles, The Japan Foundation of Los Angeles and The American Cinematheque. Featuring AACHI & SSIPAK and THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME.

National Texting Championship
Can you text faster than anyone else? Texters will compete for the title of LG’s West Coast Texting Champion and $10,000 in cash along with a trip to New York City to battle the East Coast Champion for an additional $15,000.

Susie J. Horgan and Henry Rollins @ Book Soup
Susie J. Horgan and Henry Rollins present and sign PUNK LOVE. Celebrating friendships that have been bound together by music since 1979, Horgan’s largely unpublished images were taken as friend and participant on the music scene, rather than as a journalist, and are both an exceptional contribution to the history of punk and a true reflection of punk values.

Big Time
The new bi-monthly event showcases innovations in art, music, film and culture and ultimately extends intellectual originality to the public. The makers of the hit film Shaun of the Dead have set there sights on action movies for their next uniquely funny vision. Join us at 7pm for the exclusive screening of Hot Fuzz; Director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will appear in person at this event. Hear the new Bright Eyes album as we premiere Cassadaga before the release.

THURSDAY

The Tristan Project @ Walt Disney Concert Hall
Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Esa-Pekka Salonen teams with dynamic director Peter Sellars and celebrated video artist bill Viola for the Tristan Project, a multi-discipline arts experience at Walt Disney Concert Hall, designed around Richard Wagner’s seminal opera, Tristan und Isolde. Presenting one semi-staged act per night along with works influenced by Tristan und Isolde, Salonen and the Philharmonic perform the complete opera twice. Each act includes video art exploring the underlying themes of the opera: betrayal, transformation, rebirth, memory, and time. The complete Tristan and Isolde is then presented on April 18 and April 24. Through Sat 4/14.
