Losanjealous Concert Picks: April 30 – May 6

By Victor - Monday April 30th 2007

PICK OF THE WEEK
Frog EyesFROG EYES @ Spaceland
It came down to an Eyes band vs. Eyes band battle this week–Bright vs. Frog–and the Frogs won out. Frog Eyes isn’t for everyone but those that do get them will hold them close to heart and just might have their life changed by them. NPR likened them to “the controlled chaos of early Roxy Music or early Pere Ubu.” That’s a pretty good start.

So, maybe I should have put my last posting here. Yes, Nickleback finally has a show in Southern California. Only it’s KROQ Weenie Roast.

Hope everyone made it back safely from Coachella (I almost got swallowed whole by the “revolutionists” on Sunday night). What a weekend!

Do you guys think Patrick Wolf will sell out quickly?

M+M’s (aka) Britney Spears @ HOB Sunset 5/3
    HOB Anaheim 5/2

LCD Soundsystem @ El Rey 6/10-11

Sunday Coachella was awesome!! hahah…I made sure I was far away from the revolutionists. Unfortunately it meant not being able to see the stage and getting crappy sound that wasn’t even loud enough.

Question to those who got pit tix for the Arcade Fire Greek Theatre shows: Didja get an email about the show being will call only, then a call that due to a technical error the seat location is actually Section A instead of pit, then receive your pit ticket in the mail??? Ticketbastard is confusing the hell outta me.

  10. Posted by Tommie Moonshine 4/30/07 at 10:50 pm # Reply

Shenny- I had the same experience w/ the pit tickets, except I didnt get the tickets in the mail. Their coachella performance has got me so hyped for this show, even if its ONLY in sec A.

  11. Posted by skim 5/1/07 at 12:03 am # Reply

@shenny – i got pit tix for arcade fire, but the only thing i got was an email stating that the tickets are will call only (scalper prevention measure). it said this on the ticket page during the sale as well.

  12. Posted by shenny 5/1/07 at 8:18 am # Reply

skim, that probably means you got actual pit tix! My ticket had an actual row and seat number. The real pit tix would say GA, GA1, GA2, etc. Not that I’m complaining…Section A ain’t bad.

  13. Posted by Oscar 5/1/07 at 10:52 am # Reply

Do you guys think that both Arcade Fire shows are going to sell out? I’m surprised both shows have tickets available. Yes they’re rear Cs, but still they’re Arcade Fire tickets and the Greek is an awesome venue. We made such a big deal of keeping the show on the down low too. LOL Well, at least everyone that wanted tickets got tickets.

  14. Posted by Frank 5/1/07 at 12:35 pm # Reply

OSCAR, any shows for you this week?

  15. Posted by Oscar 5/1/07 at 1:56 pm # Reply

As in show announcements? Nothing yet. As in going, maybe Safari Sams if I can finish all my work in time. I heard they might cancel the M&M shows but you never know with Brit Brit.

  16. Posted by Mimi 5/1/07 at 3:58 pm # Reply

    to f.a.

patrick wolf will definitely sell out.

    get your tix asap.

  17. Posted by Tina 5/1/07 at 4:07 pm # Reply

What are you checking out at Safari Sam’s? I think The Arcade Fire shows will only sell out as it gets closer to the date. I’m just glad I already got my tickets!

  18. Posted by skim 5/1/07 at 4:16 pm # Reply

@shenny – my confirmation email also indicated seat numbers (e.g. section PITRES, row C, seats xx-xx). however, i’m confident i’m getting pit tix because i remember i had to sit down temporarily at the hollywood bowl pit area before the show started. we were assigned seats, but right as the show started, everyone got out of their seats and ran to the front.

@Oscar – yes, i believe the tickets will sell out. it is surprising though that they have not sold out yet. it’s freaking arcade fire!

  19. Posted by V 5/1/07 at 4:37 pm # Reply

Psst… We will have some Patrick Wolf tickets to give away… Check back later this week…

  20. Posted by Oscar 5/1/07 at 4:45 pm # Reply

I got my tickets, no worries. I would think they would especially after their Coachella performance. Spank ROck, Muscles & Flosstradamus are playing FREE at Safari Sams tonight. It’s the 1 year anniversary for Check Yo Ponytail.

  21. Posted by Michael 5/1/07 at 5:50 pm # Reply

I will never understand ticketmaster. I was so shocked to hear there were tickets still available that I went and checked. Scored better seats than I did right when they went on sale. For some reason you can get Sec A row L for either day right now. Makes the whole Nickleback thing seem a little silly.

  22. Posted by charlie 5/1/07 at 6:51 pm # Reply

i just hopped on those sec A, row L seats too. see ya there and thanks for the heads up. now i need someone to take my damn terrace seats off my hands.

frank, where are the LCDS shows being posted? i am beyond ecstatic at that prospect. their show at the avalon 18 months ago was so amazing.

  23. Posted by Michael 5/1/07 at 7:26 pm # Reply

The funny thing is that I too have terrace tickets. Usually I actually prefer them. In fact, for a big show like Arcade Fire if you search terrace first you can get the first few rows which I prefer to Sec’s B or C.

Caught LCD the opening night at the Bowery Ballroom last month. All I can say is they blew my mind, and I have seen them live a bunch of times.

  25. Posted by f.a. 5/1/07 at 7:37 pm # Reply

I’m not so sure that it’s a ticketmaster issue. The Greek Theater has a habit of releasing tickets after the regular onsale date. I remember I pulled up front-row Sec A tickets on the day of the show one time.

  26. Posted by shenny 5/1/07 at 8:29 pm # Reply

skim, I’m not so sure about that. I’ve been to the Greek pit a couple times and the pit is separate from non-pit seats (i.e. Section A, B, C). You need a bracelet to be in the pit too. Hopefully I’ll get an usher who gives me pit access anyway. Seeing that better seats are being released, I think I may buy tix for Wednesday’s show too!

  27. Posted by Oscar 5/2/07 at 8:47 am # Reply

I checked, same section C unless you look for Terrace. Caca. Also, the pit will have chairs. I’ve had Pit w/ seats before and it’s not shabby.

  28. Posted by shenny 5/2/07 at 9:36 am # Reply

Well, I knew something was fishy when the seat description on my Ticketmaster order said BACK OF SECTION “A” GOLDEN CIRCLE AREA, LEFT SIDE FACING STAGE. Golden Circle Area is the Pit Section.

  31. Posted by Tina 5/2/07 at 1:24 pm # Reply

There was something about her show on the news last night. I didn’t watch it though. Anyone going to the show tonight?

DMBQ at the Smell on 6/8. And it looks as though Autolux will now be appearing with Deerhoof on 6/1 at the Natural History Museum. According to the echo.

Kinky has a free show @ 3rd Street Promenade this Saturday. There’s two sites you can get the BFD pre-sale tickets. I’m not sure which would give you the better seats though. Goodtimes is right though.

  42. Posted by Frank 5/3/07 at 2:34 pm # Reply

I resepct the music, but can’t get into it..
    (does that make sense??)

  43. Posted by Oscar 5/3/07 at 3:17 pm # Reply

Sorry, your indie credentials have been suspended (Just kidding Frank). No band has 100% support. I’m sure there’s people out there that aren’t down for Radiohead, The Smiths, Nirvana, etc no matter how much you shoved it down their throats. Sometimes there’s so much buzz that the band doesn’t meet people’s expectations live. I really like Arcade Fire but don’t expect other people to go as gaga over them like I do. It’s cool Frank, we get ya.

we kinda get you Frank ;-)

IMA Robot and Nortec Collective play at Natural History Museum as part of the First Fridays series
