The Airborne Toxic Event @ Henry Fonda Theater, 6/7/07

This was Airborne Toxic Event‘s last warm up show before their headlining night at the Troubadour the following Saturday. I never read the book by Don DeLillo from which the band took its name but it’s supposed to be his breakout novel. Judging by the positive reaction from the Kaiser devotees, ATE seems like they might not be too far from their own breakout performance. And no, this wasn’t one of those small gigs where friends and relatives of the Los Feliz band dominated the audience. It also helped that even with the Chief’s new album one knew what to expect from Ricky & Co. allowing the crowd to fully devote their attention. Singer-songwriter Mikel Jollett has assembled the right ingredients, let’s hope they further develop the group’s chemistry.
