After the Rain: Highland Park

Few things made me giggle more last year than muffler-man-turned-chicken-headed monstrosity Chicken Boy’s re-introduction to the local landscape back in October [witness the head's installation at LA Observed]. Following a discussion with Matt Maranian in 2006 I got in touch with owner Amy Inouye and was told this resurrection was in the works, but largely forgot about it. Suddenly one day last fall there he was, towering over Future Studio at 56th and Figueroa, glorious as the day he was born. Raise a glass to Amy’s tenacity this evening. [Chicken Boy: Official Site]

Fortunately, everybody’s favorite discoball-eyeballed dragonfly (Ave 52 @ Pasadena Fwy) had his wings removed for protection in advance of the heavy rains.

One day I will brave the door of Roundup. In this photo, the owner peers intently from just inside the gate. (Private residence; Aldama)

Possibly the best-named furniture store in the city.
Do not google for directions and hours while at the office.

I hate this market, because it is never open.

the paola market is open!
unverified word on the street is that it was closed for extensive repairs b/c some teenage boys accidently drove their car into the store.
